Shipment Of Mint Orders (I'm not home)

I want to order a Gold Buffalo when they become available and may be out of town and no one will be at home to accept the delivery. I understand the mint uses Fedex to get it locally and then the USPS picks it up and delivers the porduct. Is that true? If it is, then the USPS will hold the package until I return home. What do you think? If the mint allows me to enter a different shipping address on the order, it could be delivered to a nearby relative..

UPS requires a first delivery attempt to be made at home before it can be held. I had a bad experience a long time ago with holding something at UPS, and I still have stuff hheld, but I'd still recommend not ordering until you will be home.
Do not forget there is an order processing period before they ship. They can take up to about a week to ship a high $ value order if they don't backorder it from day 1.
Lots of time variables here.
Another option is to have it delivered to a relatives address.
The U.S. Mint allows you to send to a different shipping address. However you will have to fill out a verification first from the U.S. Mint. Call a mint rep and they will send you the form. They send it automatically if you are a first time buyer wanting to ship to another address. Their ordering system online allows you to send to a different shipping address other than your billing address, but you package will not be sent until you fill out the verifcation form.
