Recent pickups: 1942 Ethan Allen's Cadaco Baseball game and 1950's Saalfield Artcraft Big League Bas

Recent pickups. Just saw the 1941 Etahn Alan go for $550 on ebay recently....I picked up the 1942 for 65 bucks at flea market and the Artcraft game for $17. The 1942 has all the original discs and even blank score cards!!! Includes players like Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio, Bob Feller, Johnny Mize, Mel Ott and many others...40 player discs in all.

    Hi Claude

Congratulations on your pickups! Ya did great!!!!

The Ethan Allen Game was a real treat to see!

On the Big League BB Game - Saalfield also made a Bob Feller version of the game around 1950.

And...there's actually a "travel" version of the game - also endorsed by Bob Feller! I have your generic version also - but I don't know if I have the '42 version of the Allen game? I'll have to check - that's the problem with collecting games - they get stored and unfortunately I haven't cataloged the games.

Ethan Allen was a major league player and then went on to head coach baseball at Yale while Bush was in college. I have a signed letter from him when he retired and talked about working on more games - for on thing.

    Thanx for sharing!!!

    Nice games guys!

Cuda, love both of the games you got, and you got some great deals to boot! But I must say I really like the cover of the Ethan Allen game, the colors are strong and bright. Even the board looks like it's in super nice shape. And it looks like you may even have all the parts to the game too! Nice score.

Great pick ups, thanks for sharing pics.

Mike, I think you have the best collection of games I have ever seen. Maybe you could start a thread that shows all your games? There's not a lot of information out there about these type games, I'd love to see one thread where everyone post their games, could be fun and real informative for the rest of us.

    Hi Steve

Thanx - if I ever get all the games photo'ed - I may consider that.

I just picked up an unusual spinner "premium" baseball game related to other games - it doesn't usually get much interest but I'm gonna post it anyways.

  • Sweet Games. I love all the oddball vintage. Here is my 1948 Jackie Robinson game.

    That's a superb game Jason!

That's a Gotham game and many times the game is missing the lid cover since it's not needed to play the game.

The company also made an earlier game - very similar - Carl Hubbell "Mechanical" Baseball. In fact, I have it sans the cover - will be - eventually looking for one with the lid.

The Robinson game is hard to pick up since competition may push it way beyond what I would pay for game.

    Thanx for sharing.

  • Cool games: thanks for posting
I have a 1966 Ethan Allen all star baseball game used condition ,but everything looks like it is there, had it for about 15 to 20 years, so what is the 66 version worth? as I am liquidating everything just to stay above water, paying for medical bills, food, taxes ect ect ect. sucks getting old, to young to retire to old to get hired. image

Sorry to hear about this Mike.

I would put the game up on ebay and see what it does - I bought a '68 game for around 20 bucks - I have a '57 version that I paid 25 bucks for - both are in pretty good shape.

The '41 version was the first.

Although they printed new games every year, there's not necessarily a copyright to go with it - ya have to look for subtle differences. I'm not a big fan of the game - so I don't spend much time learning about it.

The price guide doesn't indicate a value for the '66 game - good luck with your sales. If I had to wager a guess? 20 to 30 bucks? If two guys wants it and it hasn't come up for a while - of course it could go up.

I bought the game board years ago and it is in really nice shape. The levers work and it is playable. It did not come with any of the pieces or the box, then last year I won an eBay auction for another game board in non-working condition, but it came with the box and the instructions! So i kept the good game board and the box and put the non-working game board back up on ebay and recouped about half of what I paid for the box. It is pretty big and not the easiest thing to display (takes up a full shelf in one of my display cases. But I just love the front artwork on the box. Thanks for the comment.

  • That Ethan Allen game looks to be in really good shape and for $65.00 that was a good deal I think. Since I grew up playing the game I wanted to have one for memory sake. I bought a 1955 for $63.00, and than I saw a 1942 game that was a buy-it-now for $100.00 so I bought that one a couple of years ago, but the top cover is kind of beat up so I will probably try to sell it one of these days. I remember each year they came out with new discs and it was always exciting to check out the players involved. Good times.

I have been thinking of starting a collection of baseball items that are not card related, like games, displays, pins, etc. I think they display very well. I love the games you guys have here. Thanks for sharing.

    A good way to start?

If ya have a favorite player or more - see if ya can find companion pieces of that player.

Of course - e.g. Mantle stuff is unlimited - from ads to games to personally endorsed items.

Next - companion items to the cards themselves - like ad posters to Topps, "sell sheets" for Topps salesmen e.g.

A glove, bat, hat, jersey to a favorite player.

    Team items are always fun.

This Yanks/beer item was hanging in some bar and is 2 sided:

they're usually in bad shape and creased - I waited for a long time to find this one - not from ebay.

If ya got a favorite team - WS press pins are always fun - and very affordable if ya don't go back too far.
