The Franklin and Kennedy book.

My hard-copy of the book finally arrived earlier this week after a rather circuitous route to my doorstep. Back in December when I paid R&I using a debit card I assumed that my correct address was linked with the card. What a mistake that was!!! image The fine folks out west still had an almost ten-year-old address on file from my last purchase so many moons ago. The book came east, went west and came back again, but it finally got here and was worth the wait. Right off the bat I dispensed with the Mint State part of the Franklin's and the entire listings of the Kennedy's and dove right into the Proof Franklin section. There are some really amazing coins pictured and R.T. gives a logical explanation for what has been discussed here as Matte-like-non-brilliant coins from 1950 that seems plausible. The text aside, let's get back to those pictures!!! Who among us has Proof coins that they own shown in the book?? Can you give us a page/date for your coin??

I know I'm "late to the party" and everyone else has already digested the book and talked about it here, but given the circumstance, humor me!!image

As you have gone straight to the section in the book on proof Franklins and bypassed the sections on MS Franklins and Kennedy Halves, I must say that you are a most discriminating collect who has exquiste taste in only the finest of the best of the coins covered in the bookimage

Sadly, I am on the late freight and do not have the book yet. I will get it sometime this year and enjoy turning the pages.

When I got back into collecting as an adult in the late 1990's one of the first coins I bought was a 1950 proof Franklin graded PF65 by PCGS. I had wanted one ever since I was a kid. The coin I bought ended up being a Satin specimen. It was rather bland and had a very light tan color. Compared to brilliant proof and Cameo proof 1950 Franklins it truly is an ugly coin. Fortunately I held on to it for only a few years. I sold it years ago for the price I paid for it and broke even. Since then my 1950 proof Franklin acquisitions have been much better in quality.
  • I look forward to sitting down with it this weekend, it's been sitting at the house for 3 weeks and I'm sitting in Louisianna but in 2 days I will get my chance. looking forward to seeing it.
