17 Down - 1 To Go (Clemente)

After winning this one last night, I'm down to needing just 1 card (an easy one) for my Perfectly Centered Clemente Regular Issue Topps Set. Just need the 61 in a perfectly centered 8.

I can live with the small print dot in the circle and smudge on the upper left in order to get this centereing, without the tilt, on this card.

So, who has that 61 for me?

Congrats on the pick up! The last of his cards that I had to pick up was the rookie, which I finally did.

What's your name on the registry so we can see all your cards?

Edit: Don't you need 2 more cards to get all 19 regular issue Clemente's?

I've got the most beautiful 8 you'll ever see but until someone finds me a 9 I can't sell it.

    Congrats on finding the RC!

Does this meet your standards? Had it graded myself back in 2003. I don't love the rough edge, but outside of that, it has good eye appeal and is 'almost' perfectly centered.

when register is off it is also called out of focus or blurriness

In that print run - to find a perfectly centered Clemente with perfect registration might be a challenge.

When I was looking for Clemente's in that year - I found as many with that clarity vs really clear versions.

I don't think the registration is off. Aren't most, if not all 69 Clemente's like this? Sharp lettering and slightly less sharp photograph? I think the lettering would be slightly off if there were a registration problem. No?

Aren't 69s good, regardless of centering?

Bob, what card aren't you going to purchase? There are 19 regular issue Topps cards, your only purchasing 18?
  • BobSBobS Posts: 1,738 ✭✭
Wow, last weekend at Bally's really took it's toll (worth it though). I counted on my fingers and came up with 18. My bad.

Actually, I have the fleer too, so make that 19 down 1 to go.

Not a registry guy, but maybe someday.

On the 61 that was posted. Rough cut doesn't bother me too much, can you describe the nameplate? Looks like some small blue print dots in the green. I've been holding out for a 61 with absolutely no print dot's. Guess that's why it's my last one. I have never seen one.

Not sure what 'can you describe the nameplate' is referring to. As for print dots, I cannot see any on the card - maybe the scan - but not the card. Exactly where 'in the green' do you suspect small blue print dots?

    Nice card...

But FWIW, The registration is off on the '69.

If you look at the top of the helmet or the top of his right shoulder (left side) you see the blue line,...... the blue is off register. Making the whole image slightly blury.

Usually registration is up there with centering, if not more important to some collectors.

It would be great to see them all in one spot, even if they aren't on the registry. Show and tell on all please...

Patience Nate. Still need the 61.

And, if you consider perfectly centered to be 50/50 both ways, admitedly a few are just shy. Eventually I hope for a perfect 50/50 set.

The qualifier you just said certainly is necessary on these boards, isn't it? Everyone wants to be the first to say, "well by my pixel count..."

    Awesome 1969 Clemente. Very jealous.
  • a CLEMENTE collection is a wonderful thing.

    Hope you complete it soon.

Not sure if I would agree with you Frank. This question was asked a couple years ago on these boards, and the overwhelming response was centering and corners, and then registration in terms of importance on cards.

i think a lot of collectors do not know what register means.

great centering, great corners, registration.....not so much lol

  • That is one hot home run leaders card... how'd that get graded an 8?

This isn't bad, but bad for a 10 in my opinion.

I actually like rounded corners on vintage cards...makes them feel like real cards. However registry and centering are my peeves.
