36 packs, 8 cards per pack, 110 card set plus the plastic team card.

Set Composition

Press Release

I've had this box sitting around for over 10 years. I got it at a card store where I used to help out behind the counter once in a while, and it's not sealed. I vaguely remember switching out about 4-6 of the packs from a different box because they had been sold individually before I decided I wanted to buy the entire box. So the 36 packs here are technically not factory fresh. A sealed box typically sells for $30-50, and there's supposed to be one plastic team card per box. There are also Magic Johnson and David Robinson signed insert cards.

Hopefully I'll be able to make a complete set out of this box and maybe get some potential 10s as well.

Here are the 8 cards from the first pack:

These are card numbers 2, 15, 36, 43, 51, 81, 91, and 97.

I'm planning to rip open a few packs a day for the next week or two and update this thread with a new post for each individual pack.

Believe it or not, I'm actually building the 91-92 Skybox set by hand right now.

The Series II box was a bit more expensive than I had figured.

looks like a lot of Jordan cards, was he featured in the set?

I think they did 10 (or 9) of each Dream Team member, IIRC.

  • Yeah 9 cards of each player not including Drexler or Laettner, because they were added to the team later. So there are 10 players X 9 cards = 90, then 8 coaches cards, 2 checklists, and 10 "Magic On" cards to comprise the entire set of 110. It's all there in the set composition page in the registry.

Is this USA Basketball set technically considered a part of that? I'll be happy to send you whatever leftover cards I have from this rip for a nominal price once I'm all done.

I MAY have ripped a box of those back in the day. If I did they are still around here. Let me check to see if I have it. If so maybe we can trade to make a set, if needed.

I never collected basketball cards, but seeing the shots of those guys in action brings back memories of when I enjoyed the NBA

There are Olympic cards in one of the series of that year's Skybox but the box the OP is ripping is a separate set.

Hey guys ... I found them. Looks like I have one complete set ... a second set mostly complete ... and additional copies of some cards. If anyone wants to trade LMK what cards you need and I will try to put a list of the ones I need on this thread later today.

    I don't think I opened any packs in '92?

The full bleed, UV coated cards had great clarity - same for the '92F Ultra.

    Very nice cards.

Wasn't '92 the original dream team?

  • << <i>The full bleed, UV coated cards had great clarity - same for the '92F Ultra. >>

I love Stadium Club and Ultra cards in both baseball and basketball from this era, plus the 1993 Studio baseball set that showed players in front of a background of either a jersey or hat. They're truly beautiful cards, and relatively cheap too. The Mattingly, O'Neill, Boggs, and Key cards from that Studio set are something else. The interlocking NY just jumps off the cards, plus a facsimile of the player's signature in gold foil script.... absolutely gorgeous. I have Sandberg in PSA 10. The entire set sells raw for under $20, sometimes under $10. Amazing.

    << <i>Wasn't '92 the original dream team? >>

Original? How about the only TRUE "Dream Team" ever. Nobody could touch these guys. Barkley was a monster in the prime of his career, Magic was still at the top of his game despite having taken a year off, Jordan and Pippen complemented each other so well they could have won the gold medal playing 2 on 5 every game, and the same could be said of Stockton and Malone. Bird was great, but he was really at the end of his career and retired after these Olympics. Ewing was great when he wasn't missing layups against the Pacers, so he was a more than adequate center. Drexler was a great shooting guard off the bench. I'd take those 9 guys against any all-star team from any era or even cross-eras, and they'd never lose a 4 out of 7 series. When David Robinson is considered a weakness because he was supposedly soft, that tells me the team was more than just plain special - it was exceptionally unforgettable. Mullin and Laettner didn't really belong, but who cares?

Tonight's first pack rip coming up in about 10 minutes! image

No plastic or autographed cards yet, but no doubles either, so I'm not doing too badly.

  • Well since I'm needy, clingy, insecure, and in constant need of attention and validation, and nobody replied to my last 3 posts, I ripped another pack in a pathetic attempt to solicit a response. j/k

I saw Charles Barkley at the UFC fights last weekend in Vegas. He has to have the biggest butt I have ever seen. At least an axe-handle wide.

That said, my friend saw him at the Mandalay gym the next morning, killing it on the cardio machines for a full hour.

Love seeing these cards with skinny guys.

  • Pack 9: 4, 16, 20, 53, 61, 77, 90, 96

ALL 8 cards in this pack are duplicates of what I already have, so I'm not going to bother with a scan. Disappointing pack!

    Running tally of all card numbers so far: 1, 2(2), 3, 4(2), 8, 10, 15(2), 16(2), 17, 18, 20(2), 21, 23, 27, 30, 31, 32, 35, 36(2), 37, 39, 42, 43, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 53(2), 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 61(2), 64, 65, 67, 72, 73, 75, 77(2), 78, 80, 81, 82, 84, 87, 88, 90(2), 91(2), 93, 96(2), 97, 100, 101, 102, 107, 108, 109
  • Now this is more like it!

    Pack 10: 9, 26, 34, 45, 74, 82, 95, 99

    Running tally of all card numbers so far: 1, 2(2), 3, 4(2), 8, 9, 10, 15(2), 16(2), 17, 18, 20(2), 21, 23, 26, 27, 30, 31, 32, 34, 35, 36(2), 37, 39, 42, 43, 45, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 53(2), 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 61(2), 64, 65, 67, 72, 73, 74, 75, 77(2), 78, 80, 81, 82(2), 84, 87, 88, 90(2), 91(2), 93, 95, 96(2), 97, 100, 101, 102, 107, 108, 109

So far, after 10 packs (80 total cards) I have only 13 duplicates, which would be really good, except that EIGHT OF THEM ALL CAME IN A SINGLE PACK!

Pack 9 was exactly the same as #5. I want my money back!
