Ethiopia 1889 Birr

I bought this for a friend looking to collect these Crown size Ethiopian Birr coins of Menelik II. He was hesitant to pick it up, so I did, knowing that he will regret it. These are scarce in original state, this one is NGC AU-55 graded.

I find the design quite appealing.

They have always been tough coins to locate in high grade. There is also a preponderance of fakes (for a very long time) which makes finding a problem free piece all the more reason to celebrate by doing the happy feet dance!

Nice catch! They are difficult to find in those grades and creeping up in price rather quickly. I wish I had gotten one when they went for only $100 in that grade.
