Here's one I just picked up and I must say....I like it and will fit into my collection. So, what do ya think the grade is on this coin? Thanks for looking and any comments are always welcome....Joe

This is one heck of a scratchy slab. But here's two images with more light.

    Joe.

Who cares what the grade is. The pictured coin is gorgeous. If you never plan on selling the coin, then the grade does not matter.
  • I'm gonna guess 65, Joe.

Also, is there some clashing going on under the chin and a little above the first 1 in 1919?

i think that could grade MS66. i only see a few scattered marks and some of those might be planchet defects. the only distractions-----perhaps only visible due to the image size-----are the couple of carbon spots on the obverse. this one's a beaut, Joe.

This coin , to me, is just over the top, and like my ol buddy SanctionII said... It don't matter what the grade is sometimes.,,, And I agree 100% with that statement, This was the year my father was born so the date does have some meaning. I can sit and gaze at this coin for a long time it is an amazing coin in every sense of the word and it's really getting hard to find these coins at a decent price, and I over payed for this one.

Joe, if that's the same one we talked about then I know the grade and I'll keep it to myself. What I will say is that it's every bit as nice as my 66 and the colors are bootifull! image

Sorry I am late to the party. I tried to guess the grade based on the initial photos even though you had already posted the grade by the time I logged in.

My first thought out of the box was a 65. I think the reverse strike on the buffalo head and shoulder is a tad weak, there are a few small carbon spots on the obverse and the Y in LIBERTY is weak. However there are few marks and it looks like great luster and wonderful overall eye appeal should tip the grade over into a 65. I am a bit surprised that Cape and Robec, two guys that know Buffalos, were thinking 66. I can't go that far in light of the carbon and the strike.

Forget the grade and enjoy it! And thanks for sharing.

Yeah, yeah! You got to see the grade first, so your vote don't count for nothen!image Of course I'm just fooling around with you my little buddyimage Eye appeal weighs in higher in my book, most of the time. Now, the 1919 buff is rather a tough bird to find this nice, I know because I've been beaten the bushes for this coin for years. I'll keep it.....image
