Anyone ever see a nicely toned 1967 Canadian 5c??

I am putting together a rainbow toned 1967 PL Canadian set and having a hard time finding a nicely toned nickel. Can I expect to find a nicely toned nickel or do they typically not tone that pretty Mint set tone often seen with original sets? Thanks for your input!

  • Being that the Canada nickel content is higher than US counterpart, the '67 coin is pretty dark to begin with. I have had several sets through the years, and although I prefer brilliant specimens, I have never seen a nice-looking 5 cent piece, brilliant or toned.

I had a nicely toned set that was in a holder from the Montreal Expo held that year but I don't recall what the nickel looked like. You might want to keep an eye out for one of those sets.

I don't know about rainbows, but the red and black square cases that PL sets (some, anyway) were sold in that year produce pretty stunning iridescent blue toning on the nickels.
