OT.....what does eBay stand for?

As an acronym, is there a meaning behind the term eBay? I was asked this the other day and didn't know what to say. I know it's electronic something, but couldn't come up with the rest. Any help from the board would be welcome.

The company officially changed the name of its service from AuctionWeb to eBay in September 1997. Originally, the site belonged to Echo Bay Technology Group, Omidyar's consulting firm. Omidyar had tried to register the domain name echobay.com, but found it already taken by the Echo Bay Mines, a gold mining company,[8] so he shortened it to his second choice, eBay.com

It is my understanding the eBay stands for electronic Bay. This came from the San Francisco Bay as this is where they're headquartered.
