Lesson learned. My local B & M beats APMEX for fractional gold....

....1/4 oz AGEs.

A week ago I paid $358 per 1/4 oz AGE at a local B & M 1/4 oz Gold Eagles. Spot was $1338 so I figure I paid $23.50 over spot for the 1/4 ozs of au.
Just the day before APMEX was asking $364.55 ($328.17of au) for quantities 1 - 39 when the spot gold bid was $1312.70.
(+ shipping too)

You gold bugs prolly knew this already but I learned first hand to go straight to the B & M for the best price on fractional AGEs.
Just thought I'd share.

Most B&M's sell predominantly ounces because the premiums are so much cheaper than fractionals, but do occasionally buy in fractionals over the counter. If you ask nice and bring cash you can often get them at very reasonable prices, cheaper than if you walked in and wanted to buy a whole roll that he would have to buy from a distributor.

Almost everything is always available now if you wish to pay full retail. Some people expect the B&M's to have stuff on hand for when they want to buy it. For that convenience, the buyers should expect to pay a bit more to compensate the dealer for his costs of doing business.

I was suggesting a way to buy things a bit cheaper on a "when opportunity knocks" basis. You sacrifice convenience to save on price.

The problem I have had and I think it is my local market is every time I have tried my b&m they have not been helpful or friendly. I check prices and can always do better with dealers on the net. I have found two exceptions in bishop, ca and Reno. Problem is they are both very far away.
