Anyone remember Wayne Miller baseball card dealer?

Back in the late 70s and early 80s I used to do a lot of business with Wayne Miller who worked out of Coins of Laurel at the Laurel Shopping Center in Laurel Maryland (lots of Laurels). Anyway, he was big in to T cards at the time while still selling the current and recent stuff. After I moved away from Maryland I still did some mail business with him and I think our last contact was in 83. I was wondering if anyone knew if he was still around or still dealing. He was a heck of a nice guy, always gave fair deals and knew his stuff.

Last I heard ,and this was 20 years ago, he was getting out of the comic book and sports card business to open a billiards parlor. The Laurel Shopping center is still there and has been remodeled.
  • He hung around for a while and was also a magician. Somewhere in my archives I have a signed card of his that he used to give out at shows. Really good quality person

Thanks for the info. I worked at Coins of Laurel until early 82 when I got stationed elsewhere. There was a guy by the name of Bill, tall guy with glasses, Greg, college student with a beard and the most discerning eye for anything collectible I've ever seen and the owner Jim Burns. I visited the shop around 86 and the coin business was bad and they were selling African art or something. They had opened a comic book store that was being run by Greg but I think that went under with the coins. Wayne was gone from his corner. I have a lot of good memories of the place and was thinking about Wayne while ruminating on the past. He had a passion for the cards and his excitement was contagious. He sat me down to look at pages of T cards and while I was mostly impressed by the 81 Fleer and Donruss offerings he let me have a rare chance to see some really old and scarce stuff close up.

When I started collecting in the late 80s-early 90s I would go out there and buy stuff, although I'm not sure it was the same place at that point. This was in the back of the shopping center by Horn & Horn. I remember there being a ton of comics everywhere, and a few showcases of cards. I always kind of liked the shop because they had off the beaten path stuff (OPC baseball, packs with stars on top, etc...). Not sure what happened to it or when it went out of business.

I do remember Wayne doing a lot of hotel and mall shows, in fact I think he did the Columbia Mall show for a while which was where I worked as a teenager. No idea what happened to him.

I emailed him from the link to his page and got a note back from him a couple of hours ago. He is a full time magician and his wife is a clown and he remembered me. It's always a nice feeling when you reconnect with your past. Thanks for the help.

Hope Mr. Miller and his wife don't take offense in that you said she was a clown.
