I've had them call me, and asked them to call people before (for disputes).

The number looks weird at first, but I googled it and it was infact paypal.

eBay use to call me just to see if they could do anything for me. (Really.) Amazing how things change.

Paypal called me once asking the same thing, if I had made a couple purchases the day before. I found it odd, and asked them if anything was up. They said, "no." A few weeks later, I had to file a claim to get my money back on those two auctions. It appears that Paypal knew that the seller looked fishy from the start.

FYI: The numbers on your Caller ID can be spoofed, if that's what you're talking about.

When it is calls from current disputes that you don't have open, i think it's safe to assume them giving you a dispute ID and calling it in your favor is them.

If that happened to me I'd tell them I don't discuss PP over the phone.

That if they need that info, use the site, I'll answer there.
