Can someone tell me about these 1993 Reebok cards?

I'm not posting this to spam my auction at all, but just out of curiosity about these cards.

I came across these two cards - Frank Thomas and Juan Gonzalez - which were issued in 1993 from Reebok. I worked in a sporting goods store at the time, and remember they were issued on sneakers, with a tag attaching them to the shoes via the hole on the card.

I had no idea if they were worth anything, so I posted on eBay last night for $1.99, not sure if they would get a bid, and within two hours I had three people emailing me to end the auction, with offers of $20 and $25. It already has been bid up to $19 and has 10 watchers.

So can anyone tell me anything about these cards? I might have to dig around a bit, since I remember saving a bunch of these from sneakers we sold back in 1993!

Thanks,
Scott

Not sure but I think it's a safe bet that they will end over $50 if people are offering to end early at $25. Doesn't look like any have been sold on ebay in the last year.
  • Sounds like one of those issues that flew under the radar upon release and weren't easy to come by. Those "off ebay" prices are great indicators that you are going to see some nice bids, congrats.

Here's a little more info from a Thomas collector- Link

Maybe BunchoBull will chime in here, as he's one of the biggest Thomas guys around.

Nice find - thanks Lee. I was on that site this morning and never saw that link. You're smarter than me, I guess.

Apparently these Reebok cards are in demand - final bid came in just over $70 for the two of them. I certainly didn't know the demand for this series until now!

Congrats Scooter ... looks like it's time to start digging around and finding the others. I would list them ONE per auction! GOOD LUCK!

I really wish I would have seen this post before now.

I've been after that tag for awhile and I was underbidder on the auction tonight. My hope is that it was a Juan Gone collector who won the item and that he'll sell me the Thomas.

Dang, I really wanted that too.

this is a great example of an item that a collector of individual players would love to have.....probably low pop and many were probably thrown away back in the day......exactly what makes the vintage cards valuable as well......Great find!! al.
