CPG Direct Autographed Collectibles Question--Pictures Added

I have an autographed item that I obtained at a charity auction about 10 years ago. It came matted and framed. It contains a label on the back saying that it has been inspected by CPG Direct and in there opinion is authentic. Anyone out there familiar with this company and what do you think? I would rather not say who is in the picture, since I am only interested in this company. Are they still in business and if so, how can they be contacted? I know about the major companies, but not this one. Any help would be appreciated.

  • I am not the least bit concerned about what I paid for this item at auction. Under the circumstances mentioned, did this company sell autographs that where forgeries? One of the links refered to this company as a type of flipper. Sending people out to obtain free autographs and then reselling at a huge profit. Either way, I take it they are out of business. What do you think the chances are that they actually sold real autographs and not forgeries?

If you follow the 2nd link and read it the same way I did, they may be operating under a different name and may be owned by our hosts here.

  • Reading only the first article with David D. stating that it wasn't even his signature being sold would raise questions about their products.

Bob ... I saw these links as well. That second once is 8 years old, so I didn't mention anything about it.

To the OP: Maybe a phone call or email to PSA could shed some light on this issue. If they now do run the company I am sure they will stand behind the item. Can't hurt to give a call.

  • As long as this thread has gone somewhere, I might as well add some photos.
I know that autographs change over the years and quite often, under certain circumstances are no more than scibbles. Anyone know this photo and what do you think about the autograph itself?

  • This link has a good layout of the evolution of his sig Tiger autos over the years - doesn't look good to me.

  • CPG Direct was never part of Collectors Universe.
From the link provided it looks like it was conjecture of one of the posters. The post after gives the names that that poster felt they became and none of those were ever owned by Collectors Universe.

  • I think the photo is from 1997-98. I believe that was one of the "hot" Nike Golf shirts of the late 90's.

I believe it was sometime this past year someone had sold one on SCN and it was sent for authentication and deemed to be not authentic. I'll see later if I can find the link.
  • Doesn't look like any Tiger auto I've ever seen, including his early sigs.
