I picked up several of these in a collection yesterday.. I'm assuming they are a medal of some kind as there is no denomination on them.. are these offical issues of some kind or just a generic welcome aboard sort of thing..

Privately produced souvenir issues for the jubilee/holy year of 1975. I've seen a fair number of these, not sure of the medal content altho I have assumed that they generally are some sort of base medal, perhaps silver plated sometimes. The obverse of the medal is also combined with a Pieta reverse as well.

Some enterprising fellow at the time combined these with a few lower denomination coins to produce holy year sets with packaging that looks similar to contemporary vatican mint sets (which have 8 coins, L 1 to a silver L 500 and no medal). These show up on ebay from time to time: linky
