How do you guys make offers outside of EBAY?

I 'll see an item with a BIN of $400 and think I would like to pay like $375 for the item. If there's a phone # I just call them. Do you guys just ask "Will you accept $375 to sell outside of EBAY". I usually say that I am really interested in the card and would like to discuss this could you please call me and I leave my #. This like never works. They will message me with "What do you need to know" I guess my question is this----Does EBAY monitor those messages? and how do you make an offer?

Thanks for the replies.

  • Try just making the offer of $375 and see what happens. The seller may complete the deal within the eBay confines. This also will put it on them to take it off of eBay.
  • Afternoon,

I don't know if E-bay monitors the messages, but I always act as if they do.

If I am making an offer as a Buyer (Like I'll give you $80 delivered for the 4 strip cards), I make the offer and tell them to contact me at my direct home e-mail address, I don't specify whether I want to do on or off E-bay, just the offer and then let them decline, or answer me with the next step, lowered price to your offer price, or yes I'll do it off e-bay, or whatever.

As a Seller I steer customers who ask any questions (Except of course Stupid ones), to my direct home e-mail address and attempt to do as many deals off E-bay as I can. 99 out of 100 have no problem doing direct deal, the one who does I don't want to deal with anyway. Paypal Gift is the only way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like the phone call either way, and the few times I have been contacted, I am not very co-operative. I have never called a Seller or Buyer in 12 years and 15,000+ transactions. I am funny about that and don't want E-bayers invading my space on the level of calling me at home! That's why God created E-mail!!!!!!!!!!

The simplest way and especially convenient for actual dealers with stores is you ask them to send you a Paypal bill for the offered amount and make sure to leave your paypal email address.

This way no harm no foul the seller doesnt have to respond via ebay and be tracked of outside activities.

  • You can also say, "I am ready to buy now if you will relist as a $375 Buy-It-Now." Then if they want to pursue a sale outside of ebay they can take the initiative and your communication through ebay channels is kosher.

  • If a buyer makes me an offer for an item on ebay, which I think is reasonable or that I can negotiate from, I just send them a message and ask for their email address. Once I get this, I email them and try to work the transaction off ebay. This is what I usually do. I tell them I can post the card on net54 or collectors BST so they have an audit trail of the transaction, but I'll reserve the card for them at that price negotiated. Other times, I'll just ask for their email address, and then tell them I'll send them a paypal request, so they would still get paypal buyer protection.

When I am the buyer, I usually just message the seller, and tell them I would buy that card for $X BIN if they want. Sometimes, the seller will counter off-ebay.

Let's not forget most outside of ebay offers are done to benefit both the seller and buyer from cost savings.

Yes, the fees for ebay (which allows your product to be seen by the masses) and paypal (which allows you instant payment via multiple methods with no work on your part) are for everyone else.
