Just saw this on your blog. Top notch work. I think I will have to do a custom Robinson in this style. Thanks for adding another item to my "to-do" list!
Jason, yes a Jackie Robinson in '55B would be a natural. I've been looking for just the right photo to do one, but haven't seen anything that shouted "1955 BOWMAN!" at me.
Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Having viewed thousands of 1955 Bowman's over the year -- the only "criticism" I would make is that your example is crisp and has great clarity. A large number of 1955 Bowman cards have blurry borders and often appear out of focus.
Love it!
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
Great stuff! I wish I had the skills to do this. There are quite a few cards I'd love to mock up in the 1948 Leaf Football Set: Otto Graham (AAFC), Alex Wojciechowicz, Marshall Goldberg, Tony Canadeo, Tom Fears, Y.A. Tittle (AAFC), Marion Motley (AAFC), Joe Perry (AAFC), Mac Speedie (AAFC), Lou Groza (AAFC), Ara Parseghian (AAFC) and Bruce Smith.
I use an ancient (2.0) version of Photoshop Elements. I bought an 8.0 version a year ago because my new home computer wouldn't work with 2.0. I seldom use the 8.0 version and certainly haven't taken much advantage of its bells and whistles.
Matching fonts has not been too difficult. Most of the card companies worked with a very limited stable of fonts, and they're all resident on Photoshop, or can sometimes be picked up free on the internet. Even when I can only get "close" to an original font, you'd have to have an original card side-by-side to know it's not a match.
Bob, you inspired me to try a 55 Robinson. Finding the right picture was the hard part. I think it turned out pretty good. It is just a quick "sketch" and is too low resolution to actually print a card. I found the photo on the cover of an old Jet magazine. Just grabbed the image off ebay. I might go ahead and buy the mag so i can make this higher resolution so I can print out the card. Love seeing all the customs on here and on your blog. Keep them coming!

Tho not a criticism - I'm a sucker for the cartoon on the back.
Good narrative and outstanding quiz question - I didn't know the answer BTW.
