In College football you have Ohio State vs. Michigan and others.
In MLB baseball you have Boston Red Sox vs NY Yankees and others.
In coins we have the following:
Moderns vs. Classics
Deepest Pockets vs. Penniless/Pay $200 and Go To Jail
PCGS vs. Coin Doctors
Laura vs PNG
Laura vs Widgets (wait a minute, this is not supposed to be a bash Laura thread!!!!)
I will let you fill in more examples. Now the best part is we should rate these.
Lets be NICE! No acrimony here! Once it becomes a bash thread I will delete the OP title and call sportsmoderator on my speed dial!!
Natural business competitors such as PCGS and NGC are FORBIDDEN here because business is BUSINESS (unless they are from the past!)

A truly Pythonesque answer. You don't happen to hop around, banging coconuts together do you?

What or who?
"What" are coin combatants.
"Who" battle are numerous. From NGC and PCGS to doctors and those who cherish originality. From the EAC guys to lovers of modern coins. Maybe their feuds aren't as strident as the Hatfields and McCoys but their passion is the same.
I don't think conflict is a bad thing. It helps to define things, I figure.

Those who love Barber coins vs. those who can't stand them and find them boring.
I have found that there are definitely two camps here. Some people go ape over wild toned coins, others avaid them like the plague. Very few "tweeners".

For years before TPG's and after, these copper weenies have been honing their skills on an ongoing basis. If they had ever seen actual lustrous red they might be taught silver and gold type. They would then rule a post-apocalyptic world that still wanted coins for more than spending.
