    Definitely not my series.

    I'll guess MS65.

    Nice coin.

    MS60

Edit: The wear is pretty heavy on the eagle or is that something else?

AU55 of the high points of the design has wear. MS63 if it is actually just weakly struck.

I am not sure if the dullness on Liberty's thigh is from the weak strike or a touch of wear.
  • Options
MS63 with a shot at a plus. I'd sure like to know how that patch of scratches under Liberty's outstretched arm looks in-hand. I deducted a point for that.

And I see we have quite the range of grade guesses here (AU55-MS65).

This one I will be keeping for my box of 20.

Would you feel differently if the coin were in an AU58 holder? In other words, would or should the coin be more special and keeper-worthy, based on what would appear to be a conservative grade?

No, to me, the coin has the appearance of one that has been dipped and is retoning brown at the periphery. I would not be interested no matter what the holder grade is. Perhaps it looks better in hand.

I agree - I don't care for the look at any grade. I would expect it to be in a 58 holder, though.

1st look 58 for friction on eagle, 2nd look 58 confirmed by circ wear on luster in fields on obverse.

I know nothing about these...but find myself bouncing between 58 and 62...I really don't see any where, but it looks pretty "baggy" from the photos.

    I'll go with MS62.

The old can't grade by a picture problem. Is there any luster?

Looks like a 63 to me. They don't make 58's like that anymore unless they're net graded for a light cleaning.

Slider for sure but I would guess 58 for a couple of small reasons, of note it is a scarce "Broken Arrows Rev" & it was that rev die that was reused and annealed/rehubbed for a 1878 s coin to fix the broken arrows and it caused the not famous (but it should be ) 1878s DDR and you can still see the broken rev

I really don't understand any grade guesses below AU58, based on the images provided. And I will feel the same, even if the coin graded lower than that.

I guessed 58 but I tend to agree with you. On the other hand a "modern 58" shows friction/luster loss in the fields, which I see on this coin.

That is a nice 58,it would be nice if they all were that way.The absence of any major marks is what makes it look so nice IMO.It may have been dipped in the past, but I still like it.

Since this coin has apparently migrated from your box of 20, mentioned in your OP a few short weeks ago, to being offered for sale on the BST, I am going to call this one SPAM.
