Best shot at PSA Crossover ??

Right now, I'm sitting on two SGC 96 and 98 cards that I'd rather have in PSA 9 and 10.
I know it's an extreme longshot, if possible at all, to get the GEM MINT crossover, but the MINT should.
I'll crack an 8 and submit, but I can't crack the SGC 96.

My whacked out plan:

Going to next show in my area (PSA is ALWAYS) there, approaching one of the high volume dealers who deal with PSA all the time,
and offering them $500 if they can get the crossover done. You would think that if the card is a legit 9, and the dealer does a ton of
business with PSA, that PSA would do it as a loyalty "thing".

I do not want to get involved with shipping a high end card around.

Let me your thoughts.

$500? That does seem whacked out. I have successfully crossed several bgs 9.5's. If the card looks gem mint in the case, I think you have a shot. Especially with an SGC case (vs BGS) since they can easier see the details of the card. I do understand the not wanting to ship, but feel the odds of a self-submit crossing are the same as a 'big dealer' crossing.

  • I'll pay $500 to get a cards value bumped a couple of grand due to the PSA factor.

I asked about the dealer concept because of a previous experience ... Walked up to Rich Gove of Rich Gove collectibles (FANTASTIC GUY !!) with
a high end Ted Williams card and wanted an 8 out of it. He essentially walked through the PSA wall of fire (protection), showed the card to a guy (who looked at it for a couple of seconds), had a quick conversation with him, then came back and told me to submit it. In return, I bought a couple of cards from him.

There is no question that high volume customers get extreme preferential treatment. Every hear of 4_sharp_corners ?? Look at some of their 80's PSA 10's. Some ARE NM-MT+ are best. I've seen 10's from them with visible corner dings. BUT, they are high volume.

4sc might get some generous grades, but that will happen with all that they sub. And if you have a higher valued card, it will get more scrutiny anyway. I don't disagree that subbing with like-cards of slightly lesser quality could help, but in the end your best chance is to make sure the card itself is deserving. And there is a big difference between subbing a raw nmmt card and hoping for an 8 than the crossover attempt for a 10 I would think.

I think PSA will certainly cross a BGS 9.5 to a PSA 10 but it must be a flawless card.

I have had 2 out of 4 cross and I have had 12 of 17 cards from BGS cross over in Mint and Gem Mint.

It seems SGC cards do not sell anywhere near as strong as the other two but they seem to be a very legit grader from the pics of cards I have seen online. I would just get them heavily insured and try it yourself first. If no luck then maybe try the other route. These cards must be very expensive if you are willing to pay $500 for them to get them graded for you.

There is really no telling if they would do a solid as you mentioned to the frequent grader. I found one of my cards in a PSA 10 holder that has a white corner. I am not a major submitter and they have made mistakes or over grades on my cards. I think it really is not favors but simply human error.

    In before the poof...

If you were confident about the crossover, then you wouldn't have to go through the shady channels. Obviously you're not confident, so maybe it doesn't deserve the 10. Just my opinion.

Last month I cracked out eight SGC 98's, and added them to two different larger submissions. Got five PSA 9's, two PSA 8, and one no grade (min. size). Not high dollar cards, but geez.

I've never crossed over, but have cracked and sent to PSA. Some results include:

SGC 98s coming back as PSA 8 or 9
BGS 9.5 coming back as Min Grad when I tried to cross (asked for a 9), but got a 10 when I cracked and subbed.
BGS 8.5 coming back as PSA 10 when I cracked- these were not cheap commons.

Is this the SGC 96 1956 Mantle? If so... no chance in hell. PSA is not in to crossing Mantles...period. You have to crack./////And Rich Gove- you're kidding right.image

Rich Gove is a good dealer but noway is he a high volume PSA submitter. If you think dealers can take $5,000 cards and get them holdered in the grade they want just because they do volume business with PSA, then you shouldn't bother with graded cards at all. The market would collapse if this was how business was conducted.
  • No, it's a 58 SGC Mantle. And, correct, Mr Gove was pretty much GAI back then but still went to PSA.

    you've opened Pandora's Box.

to even openly discuss such a plan with strangers is just begging for trouble.

what's to stop the rest of us status quo submitters from bum-rushing PSA with our opinions about our high end cards if we knew it would only take a handful of cash to increase our holdings into a buncha handfuls of cash?

I am with gem and itz because if this was the case BMW would still be submitting to PSA.

Save your $500 and get a nun with turrets in a wheelchair to submit the card at a show for you.
