UNC 1968 Coin Set worth anything?

I'm mainly a collector of paper currency but US coins esp ones with toning have started to catch my interest. I've been collecting coins since I was a kid and recently found my collection the basement.

Can anyone tell me if 1968 UNC coin set (I have both Philadephia [Blue] and Denver [Red]) in its original envelope worth anything significant? If the condition plays a critical role (which it usually does with Coins as well as currency) I can post pics.

Thanks for your insight.

The silver 1966 and the 1968-D halves are worth $3.99/ea. at melt when silver is at $27.00/oz. The rest of the coins are keepsakes, unless they are flawless - which they most likely aren't. You would need to remove them from the plastic and learn high-end grading of Moderns in order to make an assessment. Bottom Line - they are keepsakes.image

The silver half dollars (40% silver) are worth keeping as they have $4 worth of silver each.
Spend the $1 Eisenhower dollar. The cent is worth a couple of bucks at most but collectible.
The 66 Kennedy is also a silver piece (40%). However it is not a proof as no proofs were made
in 1966. It is from a Special Mint Set.

Thanks for the info. I guess as a kid I got tricked into thinking it was a proof by the dealer that sold it to me. It was just soooo shiny that I couldn't resist image

Check the Jefferson's for full steps, the 68-S is your best bet (a 65FS is a several $K coin), obviously from the price you probably don't have one but ya never know. I would also check the 68-P dime for the DDO and for full bands. The 68-D dime if it has full bands better be flawless and stunning to be worth anything.

Not the Jeff for a doubled die, you need good steps, really good, 5 complete, and honestly with the 68-S, it really has to be 6 complete to get FS, it has to do more with how the weakness shows up more than the real step count. Its really hard to get a complete 5th step without nearly or even getting the 6th step along the way. Hence why its so tough, and even then you may not get it - Don't get me started.]. You should be able to see it with the naked eye.

For the 68-P the date is the PUP but off hand I can't tell if yours is it. Its in the cherry pickers guide. Maybe one of the Rossie guys can help - there is one on Ebay I believe, or at least recently.

Ah, 1968, I remember it well. We were excited that the mint and proof sets were returning. I don't think they are worth right now what we paid for them in 1968. But, bigger than that the San Francisco Mint was again making coins. I jumped on a couple of rolls of brand new shiny red 68-S cents, put them into plastic tubes, sealed them with electrical tape and I still have them in that condition. Oh well, such is life.

    Ron

    Edited to add:

The cents are not to be confused with a brand new shiny red super stock Dodge.

I have one too which I bought age 14 back when it was issued. Probably the WORST numismatic buy of my life, as far as value appreciation has gone. Aside from the increase in bullion value for the half dollar...these have gone NOWHERE in value.'

except of course if you fine an error piece or luck out on one that dosent have the usual run of contact marks and will TPG high.
