I managed a couple of upgrades for this set consisting of the 1936-1948 commemoratives and just wanted to show it complete. I'm still looking for a couple of upgrades but I am pretty happy with where it is now. This is a reasonably simple set to collect with only 6 coins in it, I've spent about 2 years getting it to this point.
1936 Armament Fund, NGC 67, issued when Switzerland was raising money to rebuild their Air Force which was badly outmoded in the 1930's.
1939 Battle of Laupen, NGC 65, commemorating the Battle of Laupen in 1339 when Bern and The old Swiss confederation defeated the Habsburgs and their Burgundian allies. This is the toughest of the set, although by no means rare, it does cost about the same as all the other coins combined though.
1939 Zurich National Exposition, PCGS 66, at the 1939 national exhibition the nation was inspired to defend itself, almost celebrating the Swiss version of National Socialism.
1941 Anniversary of Swiss Confederation, NGC 67, issued to celebrate the 650th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation.
1944 Battle of St. Jakob an Der Birs, NGC 67, this epic battle took place in August 1444 and involved around 1500-1600 pikemen from Bern against approximately 20,000 mostly mercenary troops sent by the Holy Roman Emperor and led by the French Daupine. The Swiss fought to the last man, but inflicted approximately 8,000 casualties on the invading force causing them to retire from further battle.
1948 Constitution, NGC 66, this commemorative celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Swiss Constitution.
