...re-use generic corn flake boxes. The not-so-inocent's name has been covered.

It'll be even funnier if corn flakes were used to help protect the contents.

Lol, I don't feel too guilty about re-using bubble mailers now.

Creative recycling... Though, I'd have turned it inside out. Good stuff

    Interesting.

On a side note, it looks like you don't live too far from my grandmother.
Yeah, I uploaded that KC icon in 2001
  • Slightly smashed, but not too bad, and likely was this way before shipping (?)

1998/1999 Cleo's might be the most common of all the 1990s valentine cards, but I have never seen this packaging before. The cards might be cut different, having been made into two card panels, but I cant seem to find my regular Steve Young to compare it.

Back shows a McNair/Marino panel. Packaing is fairly tight and corners on all (or most) appear nicked.

It also comes with a sheet of NFL stickers that are about 3/4 of an inch square. I have a couple Youngs likely from a sheet like these, but these have a big (c) 1999 on the side I dont remember the others having...and I was thinking the others are 1998?

I'll dig through the Young piles tonight...

I thought the post office didn't accept boxes with markings on them?

They'll take anything they can get nowadays
  • The Young is a little different. This one has a 1998 copyright...the ones in the regular grocery store valentine packs have a 1999 copyright, the box/photo design is a little bigger, and the one from the grocery store boxes is perforated on two sides. Both have the same message. Can't see the back of the one in the package but it is likely slightly different as well.

So I would assume if you are a Marino or Favre collector....their card is likely different as well.

  • I think I have a cleaner Young here somewhere....but here is the normal one and the "Bonus Pack" variation besides each other.

(There are a couple 90s NFL PC collectors that this might be of interest to. I am 90% sure Beckett has catalogued this issue...but only one variation.)

Did you notice the two different dates at the bottom of your perforated issue and the one in the package?

And here I thought I had already seen everything.

    Good for you.

I agree Steve, who would have thought they would have made Steve Young Valentine's, and that we would actually have board members who collect them?

Yes, but I think they are both just 1999. Valentines day is in Feb., I know with calanders you have to print them and have them ready six months in advance for retailers to order them....I would think Valentines Day is the same...retail wise. Meaning all the 1999 Valentines Cards were really printed in 1998. Also, as I noted, but not together, the stickers in the Gift Pack are dated 1999, just the cards are dated 1998.

So I think this is more like Topps Baseball Series 1 and like were some of the newer issues say the previous year (as they are released in Dec.),

I missed out on a couple personal Steve Young Christmas Cards a couple years ago. Ones that the Youngs sent out to family/friends.

The Young collection is past the point I don't like showing it to anyone....as it makes me look extremely obsessive....image

The 13 on the package means I am the 13th leg of the mailers route....I get my mail late everyday. image

    Laces out!

I've used big Fruit By The Foot boxes to send stuff, but they're thick and rigid, like a regular Priority Mail box. Also used some old Chevron Techron boxes too. People shouldn't expect much when they're buying four jars of 10-year old peanut butter that have pictures of Derek Jeter on the labels.

For the record, I'm just messin' with ya. I wish I could be as focused on one aspect of collecting as you and some of the other player collectors are.
