Don't you hate going to see a collection and someone picked through every card :/

Just got home from checking out a collection... And I could tell the guy didn't know too much about cards, he had the stuff in his garage and said knock on the door when I was done looking.

I go through and out of the 4 '82 sets... Every key card is missing... '84 sets... Every key card is missing... They were nice grade-able stuff too, most of the cards had nice centering and good corners.

Checked through some of the 70's stuff and of course every card was in the set but anything that booked.

This is atleast the third or fourth collection in my area that I've had issues with, is it like this for anyone else?

  • I would say you were lucky you got to look at early '80's and late '70's sets. I think everyone in my area collected from 1986-1992. What's even better is when you talk to someone on the phone and ask about certain rookies or players and they either say "No, I sold them already" or "No I sold those on ebay". My conversation ends right there because I know that I'm just talking to someone who is trying to find a sucker to buy his crap.
  • No, this guy has more stuff in storage... I was told about 10 people had been there before me, I wasn't expecting much. But from what his wife said, they basically got robbed. I've had this happen twice in the past three weeks. Most of my area is pre 86, with some random junk (one guy sells that, but knows hes selling it). Wasn't too out of my way, 10 minutes from where I was. Just disappointed, seems like a growing trend.

I'd rather run into someone who actually has the cards from the year they had advertised, even if some are missing than going to someone's house who has told me they have loads of vintage and when you get there you see cases of 1990 and 91 Topps, Donruss and Score...... at least you can find the commons from the years if you need them and you've already made the trip. just me thoughtsimage
