Nicest '52 Mantle PSA 1.5 Ever?

Just doing my nightly perusing of '52s on Ebay and this Mantle caught my eye. Looking at the card (of course in hand would be better) I think the seller has a point. Many people advertise that their

card was undergraded and I think this Mantle is. The corners and centering are pretty darn good here and I think a ST qualifier should have been given with a higher grade. That being said, it's one of

the best 1.5s I've ever seen. What do you guys think? Have a good weekend. Doug

that is one nice card despite the stains. i assume he asked for no qualifiers, but might he not have been better off to have received a grade with a stain qualifier? curious to see how high it goes. is five figures likely?

Eyebone, I think in the description the seller was expecting a ST qualifier, I have to go back and look. I do agree it will bring big money, and think this is a big example of, "buy the card and not the grade on the case".
  • What does the FR mean? Does that mean the grade only applies to the front? As nice as the back is, it's badly off-center and doesn't meet the 90/10 standard.

FR= Fair Condition, and I think card backs have different standards for a card being called OC.

"tape staining" and the 1.5 grade would make me think there is some minor paper loss...

    I would say 2.5 or 5st.

ST qualifier is generally given only for wax stains.

Other stains the card usually gets net graded.

Wax, gum, caramel, or something else originally packaged with the card; otherwise correct.

  • it's a nice mantle. so typical on ebay that the seller always thinks his is the nicest ever in that grade, or undergraded, or a steal at anything under PSA (fill in the blank grade which happens to be one grade higher than is on the holder).

Prewarcardcollector does this all the time, just like he's doing with his current auction (Rose RC SGC 98) or his 54 Topps Kaline RC PSA 7

"This card is closer to a PSA 9 than a PSA 7. Almost dead centered with four NM-MT corners and FLAWLESS print and focus. The color is exceptional for the issue and the borders are white. This card is an outright steal at anything below the PSA 8 price tag."

  • Sold for $6600.
