In YOUR opinion, what is the most iconic BASE Set of the 90's?

Howdy!

i'd like your opinion on something. When YOU are asked "What is the most iconic BASE card set of the 1990's?" in regards to HOF Star Power.
I'm not looking for Rookie Card content, just the guys already in the Hall Of Fame.

rather then a one or two word answer, if you could please state why you feel the way you do towards your choice, i'd appreciate it.

1993 Finest - Unique printing technology. Solid player selection. They actually took some time to develop a decent design, unlike most base products now.

I would agree with the 1993 Finest

  • Man, i had forgotten how UGLY the 1993 Finest Basketball Design was! LOL

Baseball has 17 HOFers in it as of today. Not much offered on eBay as far as base PSA 9's go.

Of course it’s the 93 Finest. Great player selection and great design. The refractors aren’t bad either.

I'm gonna go with 1992 Fleer Ultra - it was the first full bleed set to have really good photography and quality and the subsets abound! I rate it better than TSC which wasn't bad.

1992 Bowman Baseball. The first "premuim" issue in the hobby (Upper Deck was premium, but that was because of their "new" cardstock style). Great rookie and star selection, foils (with shortprints) and great photography. It took nearly a year for the public to catch on, but once they did, the product went through the roof!
  • 1990 Leaf

My personal favorite was the 1991 Ultra. Always liked the design, they just aren't worth anything.

    91 Stadium Club
Too bad they let the presses run on that one, overproduction killed it.

Problem with 93 Finest is there really are no rookies

And I never really liked 92 Bowman because of all the yearbook photos

1995 Bowman's Best is loaded with RC's, HOF'ers, All-Stars with a sweet card design packed into a 195 cards set... and if you were interested in doing a PSA set there's plenty of cheap graded cards on the Bay (even the 10's are cheap). It's also not a bad time to do it considering the big RC's careers are tailing off and prices have come down a lot.

The 1990 Leaf is definately great example. I think even though the 1991 Topps set was overproduced it is loaded with HOFers and future HOFers (i.e. Jones) and the design isn't that ugly.

A lot of the great ones I was thinking are listed already are:

    1991 Stadium Club baseball
    1990 Leaf baseball
    1990-91 Upper Deck hockey

The photography and color on the UD hockey is astounding.

I also like 1992 Donruss baseball.
    Enjoy your collection!

  • Since people have mentioned Stadium Club and Ultra, I think the early 90s Studio sets are great, especially 93, with all the close-ups of the uniforms and hats. Not an expensive set at all, and great visual appeal on many levels.
