What color AUTO stands out best on B&W photos - red or blue sharpie?

I'm getting a black and white poster signed. Was wondering what color Sharpie stands out the best, blue, red, or another color?

The areas where the signatures will go will be primarily white background because the photo shows a lot of player uninforms which in this case are white. I was going to have the signatures done in silver in the darker areas of the poster, but there just aren't enough dark areas on the poster (going to get 5-6 sigs and maybe more later).

Red certainly stands out more, but I think collectors generally prefer blue.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
  • I would also go with blue, it looks better IMO and seems to be the standard signing color for photos. Silver sharpie would be another option, I see a lot of photos signed in silver as well. I would chose either of those 2 over red.
  • I'd go blue and I think red would be likely to fade more.
  • anything sports I'd do in blue... But if it's for your own collection and you are not selling it red would probably stand out better.

  • I prefer all black, white, gray, and silver, including the frame and matting. No reason to add color when you don't have to.

If the team's primary color were red (e.g., Reds or Red Sox), I might consider having it signed in red. Otherwise, don't.

A thought about black on a black and white photo -

To the casual observer it might not be clear that it isn't a facsimile signature thats just printed with the picture.

A colored auto more clearly conveys "autographed"

I prefer blue on most all items. But Reds and Cardinals items just look incredible with the Red!

I would go with blue sharpie or silver Deco paint pen. I think that black often looks like a pre-print on B&W photos.

Could not agree more. I always thought it would be cool to get B/W photos signed in the color of the jersey and I did that with Stan Musial. Check out this Musial I had done in person several years ago.

I have never been a big fan of red but that Stan looks amazing.
