It looks a lot better than XF to me.
Can't tell much about the luster - but I'll go AU55, maybe even 58.

55, early coins were weakly and unevenly minted. NICE coin.

Well, i'm sorry I said 45. The reverse does look very very nice. I'm ignorant about the striking characteristics of this series. The wear on the front made me say 45.
But I also see it is surrounded in white plastic, so i'm thinking it's gotta be in a slab that has a higher number.

    I must agree.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

That's pretty funnyimage But I think that in many cases, during the past couple of years, NGC has been as tight as or tighter than PCGS in grading Bust Halves in the XF-AU ranges.

But, since so many here seem to think that NGC is usually so loose, that deception should have caused posters to guess even higher grades than they did.image

Too bad PCGS blew this one and overgraded her.

obv looks 45; rev looks 50 or better...again its tough to discern the remaining luster but doesn't look to be more than 53 at best.

I still think 55 if resubmitted via Secure Plus, maybe a Plus? Once again, nice coin. Looks just like my Dad's 1815/2 while raw. He never had it graded, but I remember almost all of his set. Many early ones will have a slick wing yet an XF on the front! I don't get it. But, you have to go by how it left the mint. With a low/uneven pressure you won't get a nice strike, either on the obverse, reverse, or both. Look on E-bay. etc He also had an 1820 which was weakly struck on the obverse with what I now believe to be adjustment marks. I LOVED the reverse!!! The boldest strike, prettiest colors I ever remember. He graded it graded it as a VF. If submitted today, probably at least MS 63. I recently submitted a coin and came back via the Plus system at a grade higher with a plus. Another coin was sent, back and told them it was a struck thru mark, now in new light, since they overlooked the Secure Plus scan, it jumped a grade to MS 67. About a $2000 difference!!!. You can't judge a coin by the photo, you have to look at the ACTUAL coin, again, not the holdre. I'm NOT endorsing futile attempts at resubmitting until you get the greades you WANT. This wastes YOUR time and THEIR time, but, if you re-submit once or twice because of your STRONG belief the coin DESERVES an upgrade, then it's worth it. Keep on re-submitting just to get the next higher grade without justification, will piss them off and you'll NEVER get an upgrade. Possibly a downgrade? My resubmissions were ONLY done because the TOP experts in the field for the series thought the coin was deserving of the next higher grade. Two of the coins were atually mis-over populated too, currently being investigated. This information has been submitted to PCGS and in the process or review. AGAIN, you MUST KNOW your coins/series and talk to others in your feild. After all, they have had years/decades in the field and REALLY probably know what they are talking about. Good luck! image))))))image I'm eagerly awaiting the Pop review, since one of the coins only had a sale of TWO single coin sales via all avenues since 1998.
