Affects of storing cards in gun safe with firearms.

"Lead, copper and other metals will also be released when a firearm is cleaned. Highly aggressive solvents and other agents used to remove lead and powder fouling may also present a hazard to health. Installing good ventilation, washing hands after handling firearms, and cleaning the space where the firearm was handled lessens the risk of unnecessary exposure."

With the above statement in mind, what are the long term storage affects of cardboard, firearms and materials in a gun safe.
Regardless of how clean and careful you are with materials the airborn chemicals will be present in a safe.

I know the coin guys are in tune with storage procedures when it comes to gun safes.

What about cardboard?

Chime in or crack jokes...but "this is a serious question"

  • You might shoot a hole in it, causing vlad to take them to the ship while getting robbed by somalian pirates, hopefully he doesn't drop the briefcase in water though since we know that with a hole the card gets ruined!

On a serious note... You can probably get a fireproof safe for just cards for 100-200$.... If you're keeping as much as what your interests show in there it probably wouldn't be a bad investment.

A fireproof safe within a gun safe? Now you're talking....

I personally keep my high end things at the bank vault, collectors insurance.

But I can't help but think some people may indeed keep their high end cards in the same gun safe with their firearms and ammo, which is why I pose this question.

  • compared to what your cards are worth as opposed to what a new safe would cost, why take the chance, right,,,,,j

For safety, keep your ammunition and firearms seperate when you store them.

I think cleaning solvents are going to be your biggest issue. No one would store a gun in a safe without cleaning it first. I clean my guns with M-Pro 7. It is supposed to be a lot less corrosive than cleaners like Hoppes. I wouldn't worry too much about boxed ammo contaminating your cards. The cards in the safe are probably in slabs, card savers or top loaders. I am guessing even long-term exposure is going to be minimal.
