A fake 1941 Williams, yes or no?

image

Ebay auction

My favorite part of this item description is: I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL GRADER, AND SINCE A PSA EX AND A PRO GRADING EX ARE HELD TO DIFFERENT STANDARDS...

in his defense, he does state: IF THE CARD SHOWS COLOR SEPARATION, IT IS MY SCANNER, NOT THE CARD. (but to THIS degree?)

I am used to the other 1941 cards to have a watercolor look to them. It could, in fact, be his scanner. I looked at every other one of his cards and they all seem to get the dot matrix appearance about them when you zoom in closer. What are your opinions on this? If legitimate, I just might want to purchase this.

Thanks for any and all help!

I think it looks good. It doesn't have that artificially aged look to it. But I'm also not overly familiar with the issue so I could be way off base.

Most scanners have settings to differentiate betwen color photos and color documents. Mis-setting this (I think it's called 'auto sharp mask' on my canon LIDE) can make cards look like that.

  • I have been working on this set or a while. I am down to two final cards. The Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams. I hope that this goes for a decent price!
