The 119th F.U.N. Show Report...but it's mine.

My report is fairly short....I hope.
I had a great time over Friday and Saturday. I took in a bit of MessyDesk's (John) Seminar on Photographing small metal discs. I wanted to see what he was doing for lighting since I am fairly confident about all of the other aspects of what I do with my photography. I enjoyed the good tips in his presentation. I also met BlueCC (Todd) and talked to him about photographing small metal things. Good times!
I met up with Dimeman (Jon), STONE (Winston) and Glen Holsonbake (along with his crew) a number of times....even had a fancy dinner with them....great food and great company. Learning about Winston's recent acquisitions was really cool. I was able to see many of Dimeman's varieties prior to their submission to PCGS. Really cool stuff in that batch of 12 along with others he brought with him to show...and then the couple of NewPs he found too! Great people.
I sought out a few dealers to meet and say hi to or just check inventory of...the famous Charmy (very warm and friendly although she did not take a photo of me for her famous show report...I feel so left out), Fred Weinberg (cool guy willing to share his knowledge), Angel Dee's (nice and carries a few Mercs), Certified Assets Mgmt (some really nice toys on those tables), ....and many other dealers with nice toys. I met the famous Bill Fivaz and had a nice conversation with him...and then he was off to 'pick a few dealers.(just a guess) Meeting him was cool.
As for new acquisitions...I found one coin that I should have bought and just didn't. I have a fear of spending money on common date coins and then with my luck, a few varieties would become available and I would not be able to buy them. I walked the entire floor and looked at every slabbed Merc, that according to the Cherrypickers' Guide has a variety associated with the date....and I did not find ONE variety for my set. Besides the obvious overdates, I did not find ONE attributed Merc Variety in a slab that I needed either....NOT ONE! PCGS, NGC or ANACS.....NOT ONE!
As for the Heritage Auction, there were three coins that I was seriously watching and thought about bidding on...but then I have that fear of spending money and not having money for varieties...so I only bid on one common cheap coin that I needed for my set that also seemed to meet my standards. So I filled a hole without blowing all of my cash...leaving a nice pile of cash for varieties for when they make themselves available.
I had a great time meeting people and can't wait until the upcoming Summer FUN and Winter FUN next year.

It was sad not to find any varieties but everything else made up for that. I even found time to submit two coins to PCGS for a re- grade...and RickO would approve of those two as well I believe. They are a 41-S and '38 in 67FB that I hope will upgrade. We will know in a couple of weeks.
The coin that I should have bought was a 39-D in 68FB....but there will be other opportunities for that, not exactly a rare item.

Nice report and thanks for sharing with those of us left in the cold (Wisconsin to be exact). Too bad on the varieties, but over time they will show up. I took me about two years for my varieties which included lower grades. I still have upgrading, but the set is 100%. There is some competition with the Mercury Dime Varieties, but when compared to other sets, there aren't that many of us. The Mercury Dime people seem to help each other out too (I know I shouldn't have said anything on that one ). Keep me in mind when you have cast offs.

Tony, I was certainly looking for ALL of the varieties. It would make me just as happy to find something for someone else as it would for me to find something for myself. I did locate one Roosie variety that Jon did not have. It was nice and I called Jon over to check it out. It was priced pretty high so John passed on it. It was already attributed in a PCGS holder though.
