Wow...not sure I see why they were graded so low. Many look nicer than the grade?

Are you now working on these sets? If so, I have some doubles could trade or willing to purchase some.

great for buying, not for selling image IME anything that makes you question sending a card in, usually results in a low grade. Oh I still do it, but always kick myself!

Man that is tuff. Beautiful cards, low grade cards like this are the best deals to be found.

Looks like the rubber bands created some tears in the edges (front or back) most visible on the front edge borders. Hence the tough grades.

    ouch.
  • Send them to SGC
  • I think these are great regardless of the grade!

A rubber band indentation, to my knowledge, basically gets treated the same as a ding...IE: if it's a mint card with a rubber band indentation it basically gets a PSA 6 at best.

Likely some of those PSA 1 cards have water damage of some sort, and I would think those cards look a lot worse in hand than on the scan. A scan can cover up a lot of defects that are easily noticed in hand, hence a great benefit of PSA grading. I cannot stand the look of water damage on a card, which gives the cardboard a wavy grained look, and for my collection, I am not interested in those type of cards.

I don't see any water damage.

You could get 2 people together (a buyer and seller) and they could come up with EX (or better) as the grades.

PSA has a standard and it was applied here.

IMO with full disclosure those cards would sell for more without being graded.

    Nice cards.
    Good for you.

Scott's right. Edge tears will cause those low grades.
I've seen that on many early '50's Bowmans.
Still nice looking cards despite the grades they received.

Water damage, edge tears, could be a pinhole that gives it the PSA 1...in any event, I've stated this for years that PSA, in cases where the grade wasn't obvious like say natural corner wear on a PSA 5, that when a card receives a 1, and it's not obvious why from a picture in which PSA knows that many of their products are bought and sold over the internet from scans, the reason/s the card received such a low grade should be noted on the flip.

My mistake, I thought we were talking about these specific PSA 1's.

The ones where the OP stated in his title had rubber band damage.

Silly me thought that maybe the 3's had less damage to them

as opposed to the 2's and 1's.

Perhaps the word 'those' confused me.
    Good for you.

No Water damage all came from the same group where most graded 6 or above.
These cards would be a buyers dream.
Maybe it was because the rest of the group was so nice they had to find some dogs, but hey I'm overall pleased.
Maybe I'll giveaway one of the PR1 just to get another's opinion in hand.

Those are some beautiful cards however they are technically graded correct. As mentioned above all of these cards have a small tear in the white border which knocks them down to a PSA 1. SGC would grade the card the exact same way.
