Don't forget to enjoy your coins and dream every once in a while

Amidst all of the business that can go good or bad at the blink of an eye in this hobby, don't forget to just enjoy your coins every once in a while. I've always liked handling colonial-era pieces and coins from the early 1800s, which are great fodder for thinking about a time long past. Over the weekend, I was working with a ton of Cuban casino chips (I know, not coins, but close enough) and got transported straight to Havana back in its heyday.

I eventually found myself back at my desk working, but enjoyed the daydream detour, and thought I'd remind everyone else to not forget to just enjoy the hobby and dream every once in a while, too.

Nice. I think the history aspect of the coins is high on my list. Yeah . . I dream. Most of my dreams are in a Doily pattern though . . .

    Well spoken, airplanenut.

This hobby is as fun as you want it to be.

    For me... it's a trip!

Right on. I keep an Elizabeth I shilling, in fairly desperate condition, sitting on my desk because it makes me think of the gill of beer, leg of mutton, and entrance to decent seats at the Globe it may well have bought some fellow and his date.

Good advice! Sometimes I dig out a few boxes and just go through them, and I usually notice a detail or two that I never noticed before. I especially love photographing them. But there's nothing quite like just looking them over with a 10X loupe. image
