opinions welcome - what will it grade?

Please offer opinions - I especially would like to hear from anyone that has had experience with grades on cards that have some surface wear such as this---------

Jim ... I heard that if you wait until 11:11 on November 11 you will get all 10s!

Thats an interesting thought Doug. While I do not submit enough cards to be superstitious, perhaps the person who cracked out some cards on October 10, 2010 at 10:10 could shed some light on this matter. image

    Are there any back issues?

From the wear on the left side corners, I would grade this a PSA 5 to PSA 6. Although I'm not familiar with this issue at all. Maybe I'm too harsh.

I'm thinking 6, maybe 6.5 if you get the "freshly laid" grader

Jim ... are those scratches (slight paper loss) on the left side of the card by his face and in the sky? If so, I think maybe a PSA 4. I hope I am WAY off.

Whatever the grade it's a real nice looking 100 year old card.

I have seen many T218s with more corner wear/rounding than yours get PSA 6s, but your card's surface is a variable that is tough to figure since one grader may see it as wear and another may see it as paper loss.

Gun to my head I say PSA 5. Good luck if you decide to sub it.

  • Wow! This is what is so hard about sending these in for grading. Definitely not worth spending the money to get a PSA 2. Most people would buy that card raw and pay as it were a 6 or 7.

Damn, you were being hypothetical. I thought for a minute you were being serious and I got excited.

I sold a whole pile of raw ones very cheaply....I've seen grades all over the place on this issue. Many of the ones I sold were EX-Mt or so. This was the only card that I had graded. It was clearly the best of the bunch. The back is fairly clean.
  • Afternoon,
I just subbed that exact card along with another Champion that looked to be exactly same condition. The Ahearn came back a EX+ 5.5 and the other one a EX 5.

    55 1 17866761 EXCELLENT 5 1910 T218 CHAMPIONS JOSEPH JORDAN ATHLETE Card US
    56 1 17866705 EXCELLENT+ 5.5 1910 T218 CHAMPIONS DAN AHEARNE ATHLETE Card US

If your thinking of subbing to sell, I wouldn't bother, I have the 5.5 in my store and two (Two each) EX 5 Ahearnes waiting in the wings!
