Priority mail issues the past week?

DrBusterDrBuster Posts: 5,412 ✭✭✭✭✭
Anybody else having 'slow' issues with priority mail or the usps tracking website? I haven't had an update since the 5th on a sig/insured package....too soon to worry? Seems kind of odd with no update since the 5th, or no?

  • Yes it does! I have sent out 6 orders this week and tracking was updated every 2 days or less all the way to the delivery. all orders even the ones going clear to the other end of the country have been arriving by 3 days. Now I know they are having weather problems in the south interstates are closed as I write this. Perhaps that's why your shipment is running slow.

True on the insurance, I just want my metal, don't want to have to go through getting a deal from here undone and the time/hassle that would take though.

I'm going to call the customer service and see what they say.

The last one I got from apmex took forever (usually 3 days tops), but I at least had more update info on the tracking. This is private party, not that that has anything to do with it though.

Just called, nobody had any different info than the above tracking info "we're showing on the way and that's all we have". Maybe if the POs here in Georgia open up today I might get a scan upate hopefully, especially if it's been sitting in a truck since Sat/Sun waiting to be touched. Hope anyway.

I've never had a problem with the U.S. Postal Service. I guess I've been lucky and maybe I'm overdue.

USPS service nationwide is stressed by reduced manpower levels. There are no backups. If two people call in sick, a local P.O. can be paralyzed. If a Priority or Registered Mail handler is missing, the stuff will be stored until that person returns.

A station on my former dealer-to-dealer network didn't get any Registered Mail for 10 days. When he complained, he found out that his regular carrier was on vacation and the fill-ins refused to take the responsibility for Registered.

In process tracking on anything except express is a courtesy. Sometimes you get an update while in transit, sometimes you don't. On-line viewing's main purpose is to see completion of delivery. Anything in between is icing on the cake. Lack of in-transit updates should not be taken as an indication of problems with the shipment.

The one that really keeps me on pins and needles is when a seller prints his own postage and the usps website says nothing more than "Electronic Shipping Info Received." I like to at least see confirmation that post office received the package from the shipper. Whenever I print my own postage on a high dollar item I always take it to the postal counter and have it scanned into the system. This way I have proof it was put into the hands of the post office.

  • I feel the same way as most who have posted re package aneplies... My customers often gets the package before the tracking has caught up with the delivery...priority mail use to be just that..PRIORITY..makes you wonder if in fact it is PRIORITY or just tossed in with 1st class or worse. The problems of the post office will get worse before it gets better...email etc has done the post office in...just think about this...when did you last email, and when was the last time you sent a letter to update a friend or family member of important news...The fact that we are all using our computers to complain about the post office...speaks for itself...

  • I live in a small town and as such you know everyone! The post master in our town is a friend of the family. I talked to him today about the latest delays reported here. He said most of the delays this week are weather related especially in the south east U.S. . He also confirmed what the prior forum member stated about Priority mail being slow. He said that 1st class and Priority mail arrive at their destination mostly at the same time, and often travel together.

  • Lets hope no Board member had a gold shipment on this truck this week! Mail scattered along 65 miles of St. Louis-area interstates after falling off truck
