Anyone here bid on Topps Vault Items?

I'd like to compare interests in items on the Topps Vault Auctions. That way I'm not bidding up something someone really wants....I just lost an Ichiro Negative auction....was on the phone and let it slip out of my hands at $241.....I'd like to know if I'm competing with board members

    Ichiro stuff is insane.

I am a bargain hunter and pick up stuff here and there.

I look at the listings every evening, looking for Padre, Charger and Nolan Ryan photo negatives.

I then copy any photos to my hard drive. Topps allows people to download a copy for their own private use, as long as they don't make multiple copies for resale.

  • The Topps Vault has really solid pieces, a lot are modern 1 of 1's, but the best are the older negatives and scarcer proof material. The Nolan Ryan negatives get up there.....anything Mantle also....I just got outbid on a couple 85 Elways proofs. I've out together quite a collection of older negatives. I get a kick out of the football players poses.
  • I really like their stuff and tend to buy from them monthly, despite hardly ever looking....maybe a good thing.

They are great for PCs and resalers.

    Some from my PC collections...

2001 Topps Gallery Tony Gonzalez Photo Proof. I think he looks kind of like McNabb in the card...long chin and all.

    Some others....

I have some more posted in my Tony Gonzalez thread.

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

I was watching that Ichiro as well. I prefer the print match proof photos over the negatives (they are more involved in the card process and display better than a slide, imo). As mentioned there's always some deals and people do very well reselling this stuff.
  • MeteoriteGuy, thanks for posting your scans, those are some nice cards. Being from the Bay Area, I like that Young. I notice how they used the reverse image for the card, pretty cool. Vlad, I'm all about bidding on items that use the actual images used in the cards. If I didn't miss it, I'm sure I would have bid up that Ichiro but likely would have lost anyway. dontippet- that's why I posted, maybe you and bziddy can PM and decide on what your max bids are before actually driving it up on the site. Good luck to you two.

I have picked up various Redskins items here and there.

I also like their uncut sheets.

I have picked up some early 70's sheets at some great prices. I have also lost a bunch
that just went for insane numbers.

Would love to just walk around in there for a day.

1971 topps posters and 1976 for the Redskins power.

  • Wow, crazylegs, I knew they sold eTopps sheets, never seen full sheets like that. They must have cost a pretty penny. Thanks for posting your scans, those items look frame worthy! Especially the 70's posters sheet.

hehe -- I think I bid on one item a year or so (I was the opening bid on that negative that ended a few days ago).

  • I have picked up some cool Brian Winters proof cards from them over the years.

I believe Mike (aka Stone193) occasionally buys older Topps vault items.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

I'm a sucker for Topps Vault stuff. I particularly like the "final" photo negatives/prints. Some nice stuff above ^^

I've picked up a few color separations and proofs. Interestingly, I have 4 proofs from '77 Topps baseball that actually use the photos and team name from that year's OPC set for players who changed teams in the offseason and had a different picture/team on their OPC card from their Topps card.

  • I've bought many Topps Vault items for my PC...the best ones were from several years ago when they were Beckett slabbed...now it's just in a plain holder with a Topps Vault sticker.
