Johnson & Mathey 2oz Gold "pillow"

What is a typical premium for one of these "pillows" I saw one today at the Tampa show but they wanted 3600. While it was unspeakably cool... it seemed like a big premium.

That's one heck of a premium over melt. I get the feeling that he really likes it and doesn't really want to sell it.

When I brokered that 3,500+ ounce bar collection last Spring, when gold was around $1100, I had a hard time getting premiums on stuff like the pillow which used to bring a premium. At $300-400 gold they wre cute. At $1300-1400 gold, they ain't cute anymore.

A store I visited in Boise had a 10 oz Federal Reserve of New York gold bar. Real nice stamp - he couldn't get over melt for it. I still buy the poured silver bars, as a few bucks over spot may be a high %, they are fun to own...

Federal Reserve of New York? Are you sure it wasn't U.S. Assay Office of New York? I have a 49 ounce gold bar of it with my birth year on it. Have never seen a Federal Reserve gold bar.

I don't know now. I will ask tomorrow and get back to you. The memory is not the steel trap it used to be...

Wow. I'd love to see a pic of that bar.

I am a sucker for the loaf and pillow styles. Wish you had a pic. I think premiums are gone on most bullion now a days
