    I could get interested in such pieces. It has a nice patina and rather ancient look to it.

    I overlooked the fact that it was dated (16 _ 18) at first glance. Does that say 47 mm? It's a fair sized thing, then.

    Was it terribly expensive, if you don't mind my asking, out of nothing but pure random curiosity?

    The item is 47 mm. It is a restrike; probably late 17th, early 18th century (the tag says no later than 1700, I believe).
    In my opinion, the price was reasonable; $150. If I was the hard bargaining type, I suspect that I could have got it for less, but not that much less.
    I also suspect that the subject matter of the reverse, the rearing horse, increases the price because of its popularity.

    It looks like there was a mount at the top at one time?

    I guess that's to be expected, on medals like this.

    I like how the coppery color (brassy, really) shows underneath that almost black patina. Sometimes having exposed metal in areas where a patina was disturbed is not a good thing, but in this case it "works" and I like the look.
