  • TUCSON, Arizona (Reuters) – Representative Gabrielle Giffords was alive but in surgery at a hospital on Saturday after a shooting that also injured at least nine other people, a hospital spokeswoman said.

An earlier report from National Public Radio said Giffords had died.

Slaten said there were nine other shooting victims at the hospital with serious injuries.

He also was anti-God, according to reports. This alone takes him clearly out of the conservative category.
Listing Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto as some of his favorite books, he does sound more like an extreme anarchist. How do you reconcile these two opposing ideologies any other way?
Looking at his YouTube video, what on earth does advocating a new coinage system have to do with what he did? It also appears to have been written by a self-involved ninth grader. I lost interest after the first few seconds.

Jesus was a liberal according to my faith.

We are given some hints in the Bible and the Catholic Church's teachings about whether Jesus would be a liberal or a conservative:

In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus proclaims that how you treat the hungry, the thirsty, the sick and other "least of these," is how you treat Jesus himself. And if you fail to help the "least of these," Jesus promises, he will send you to Hell.

Catholic social doctrine holds that the resources of the earth, and the output of man's work, are meant to be shared equitably by all.

The Catholic Church calls for a "preferential option for the poor."

An overwhelming concern for the poor and for economic justice permeates the Old Testament.

There is the redistribution of wealth injunction of the Old Testament Jubilee Year, when slaves were released and land returned to its original owners.

Rest assured that this horrible murder is just another crisis to be used to the advantage of those that want your guns, your gold, your freedom and your money. It's interesting that in 24 hours, the narrative from the right wing has become "the shooter was a liberal nut."

The source of that spin seems to be the disturbing memo published by Judson Phillips, founder of the Tea Party Nation.

It was immediately clear that the TP supporters (Like Rush's dittoheads) are simply parroting what they have been told to say and think. In his memo, Phillips urged his Tea Party supporters to blame liberals for the attack.

“The hard left is going to try and silence the Tea Party movement by blaming us for this. Clinton used the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing to “blame conservative talk radio, especially Rush Limbaugh” and “The tactic worked then, backing conservatives off and possibly helping to ensure a second Clinton term. The left is coming and will hit us hard on this. We need to push back harder with the simple truth. The shooter was a liberal lunatic. Emphasis on both words.”

It was chilling this weekend to see how supporters of the regime tried to extract policitical advantage from the Arizona shooting.

Thanks to the internet and alternative media they did not succeed (this time) in turning the shooting into their version of the "Reichstag Fire" to suppress political speech.

Until now opposing the agenda of the Executive Branch predictably led to being branded a racist. People aren't cowed by that tactic anymore. What's next is a push to criminalize political speech. Orwell described it best when he coined the phrase "thought crime".

Nope...nutcases are people who CALL THEMSELVES patriots.

The Patriot Movement is a loose collection of independent anti-government social movements in the United States beginning in the latter half of the 20th Century. It centers on a view that individual liberties are in jeopardy due to unconstitutional actions taken by elected government officials, appointed bureaucrats, and some special interest groups outside of government; to illegally accumulate power.

The reformist wing of the patriot movement is considered to have begun in 1958 with the formation of the John Birch Society and opposition to communism, the United Nations and the civil rights movement. An insurgent wing has been traced in origins to the Liberty Lobby active in the 1950s with promotion of themes of White supremacy and antisemitism. The patriot movement was highly active in the mid-1990s, but saw decline into the 2000s. In 2009 the movement again gained prominence in opposition to the presidency of Barack Obama. The Southern Poverty Law Center claims that Patriot movement ideas are more widely propagated today than in the 1990s, in part due to acceptance of its ideas by prominent politicians, mass media figures, and the Tea Party movement.

It now includes diverse conservative and libertarian causes addressing issues such as national sovereignty, State sovereignty, the United States Constitution, individual liberties including the Bill of Rights, and American exceptionalism. The political economy of the movement centers around the social contract. The movement's iconography centers on themes relating to the American Revolution, such as the colonial Minuteman, the 13-star "Old Glory" flag, Uncle Sam, and the painting titled "Spirit of 1776". Media outlets have associated the patriot movement with the right-wing militia movement.
