Do pin holes bother you?

I know I am probably in the minority, but pin holes really don't bother me. I am not sure why an otherwise beautiful card would only get a PSA 1 because of a pin hole. I would rather have nicely centered, otherwise mid to high grade card, than a mid to high grade card that is off centered - especially for the price.

I agree. I think "pinhole" maybe should be used as a qualifier rather than an automatic psa 1. Would you mind if a nicely centered Mantle with sharp corners had PSA 8.5 (PH) on the slab?

I dont' think I would mind a bit. Although, I'm not sure it should be used as a qualifier because there are some pin holes that really look bad. I just think that pin holes should not be treated as harshly as they are. For instance, that PSA 8.5 Mantle might should be dropped a few points to maybe a 5. Treat a clean pin hole like a surface wrinkle. I've seen cards with surface wrinkles get PSA 5 and PSA 6.

  • I agree, pinholes ruin a card.

I Have a pinhole on a 49 Satchel Paige that could easily grade a 5.it is so small it can barley be seen.It is a PSA 1 instead. It should be a qualifier on cards that are pre 60s at least.

Shane...a pin hole in a 61 Dice game card, or a 66 Punch Out , would not bother me one bit image

I would imagine half of a card would be ok on those! image

And, yes, that is a great way to get eye appeal for less. I'm all for that.

  • I agree with Teddy, you can find cards with decent eye appeal for a fraction of the cost because of a pinhole. When I'm working no my raw sets I'm not overly worried about condition anyway, here is an example of one of my pinhole cards....think I paid under $30 for it.

    Doran,

That is a perfect example of what I was talking about. $30 for that card is outstanding.

Pinhole vintage cards don't bother me, but I understand why there is no qualifier for it.

The cards didn't come out of the pack with a hole in them...unless...

I see NO reason to buy damaged cards.

    Shane,

I would buy cards that look like PSA "7s" (but for the pin hole) at PSA "1" prices all day long! Problem is, MOST go for more than "ordinary" PSA "1s".

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

But they don't even come close to PSA 7 prices. Depending on the card, I would probably pay PSA 4 or 5 prices for a PSA 7 type card or higher with a pin hole.

It depends -- if it is a modern card, yes, it bothers me.

If it is vintage and rare, then no problem at all. An E104-III with a pinhole? No problem. A 1961 Topps Dice Game Mantle with a pinhole sold for ten(s) of thousands.

It depends on how hard it is to find the same card without a pinhole
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
