1993 Ted Williams Co card set ( regular issue) where 2 tens have graded out for the entire pop report. This was a first year issue with chipping the norm. It had grey borders with white stock. If it chipped , you saw white.

I love this set , but will NEVER have an all 10 complete set.---- Sonny

As mentioned,85 fb is the worst for chipping,

  • Some of the 80's opc hockey years are as difficult, or more so than 86-88 fleer baskeball stickers.

    80-81
    81-82

I remember as a kid trying to find a mint paul coffey rookie. Some opc star cards are never centered. Or chipping on the back. the blue borders on the back of 81-82 aren't easy.

85 donruss is probably easier than 85 topps football. Any black bordered topps card makes me nervous. If you look at it the wrong way, it'll turn white. Sometimes after I put cards away in a box in a closet, I think black border cards are decomposing as I walk away. Haha.

Worst quality control of the 80's...81 Donruss.

i mostly collect football cards so that is what i know best... i think 86 topps steve young is very condition sensitive. there are very few 10s for a key rookie card from an 80s set. also anything opc.. i'm pretty sure opc uses bread knives to cut the cards. the least condition sensitive are 1990 topps traded football and 1990 netpro tennis. there are about 1mm psa 10 emmit smith rcs.
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here
  • 81 donruss are a beast to find centered and properly cut, the think cardstock does it no favors either.

    84 donruss centering issues
81 topps, good luck with those PSA 10's
    85 donruss black borders.

1987 Donruss.....black borders, prone to chipping. They are actually really nice coming out of the factory set, but nothing that makes the grade out of wax packs.

without a doubt, it is 1981 Topps. You will find many more miscut cards than centered ones in any pack or box you open. And even when you find one that is well centered and looks MINT, you are guaranteed to find edge or corner chipping under magnification. I have closely looked through over 25,000 of these cards and have yet to find one without this chipping. I always wondered if PSA takes this into consideration when they grade this set...otherwise I don't see how any could grade a 9 or 10.
  • i am still amazed at the price that those early pop psa 10 1986 topps nolan ryans sold for, does the sutton have a lower pop than the ryan?

My vote goes to 1986 Topps, 1985 and 1987 Donruss BB, and 1985 Topps FB.

I'm going to have to go through my stash of these cards and see if I have any 10-quality cards. I just renewed my membership and if I use the freebies for any gems it may pay for the subscription, eh?

I've got a note to look for some of the other '80's cards specifically mentioned here. That'll help fill in some recreation time in these winter months.

Can't wait for pitchers and catchers to report!

1982 FBI Food Discs probably take the cake, far and wide. Very, very thinly distributed, and they were on the bottom of 12-pack cans of soda, so are always wrinkled, scuffed and indented, those very rare times that you actually find the darn things
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

As funny as this may sound my vote would have to go to 1989 score supplemental John Elway and Rodney Peete. I bought 6 sealed cases(360 sets) of these one time really cheap and i didn't get an Elway or Peete that would have graded anything higher than a psa 7 or 8. For some reason they are absolutely brutal.
