WHITE PLAINS SHOW MLK WEEKEND

I am thinking about taking down a table at the White Plains show, but don't want to swallow the $400. Don't do a lot of shows in fact usually only do the national with a friend of mine. Have never really done shows. Anybody want to do a table with me for Saturday and Sunday let me know.

  • This show is next week? I worked in a card store in the late '80's and we used to have a table at the White Plains shows. Good times!
  • Thanks for your sharing. I think you're right. It looks very useful

I went last year, at the time I was there I saw a lot more dealers than customers.

No, I used to work at TJ's Baseball Cards in Suffern,NY.

Agree. The show is but a pitence of what it use to be. At one time it was both upstairs and downstairs(huge), then it was upstairs only(still big), now its only downstairs(small show). I would save my table fee as its mostly dealer to dealer sales anyway and of that only a few dealers buying with enough cash on them to do a deal, others are just sitting there with high prices on their cards thinking we are back in the good old days when you could sell anything for a good price. I call them the museum curators who simply go there to show off their cards and then pack them up and take them back home till the next exhibit.
  • It's funny how the hobby has changed: when I worked in the card store in the late '80's, my boss would do most of his sales before the show to other dealers. It might still be this way, but the $ amounts are much smaller. The White Plains show was great to go to when Gloria Rothenstein ran it.

Yes, but her kids ran it into the ground. Also, Wolfgang is incorrect about it only being downstairs now.
  • We will have a table at the show and we will be accepting drop offs for our private signings. Hope to see some of you there. Take care.

Well thats what it was like last year when I went. Card show downstairs and coin show upstairs(both shows charge different admitance price), and the coin show was packed with customers but the card show was almost empty(customer wise).
