So who bought the Dutch Clark autographed Chicle?

Alright, I figure it might be one of the guys here. Who bought the Dutch Clark autographed Chicle a few minutes ago? My bid got more than doubled, LOL.

I was the underbider at 999.99. Wow - I can't believe the price that it sold for.

    Gregm,

You lost by $10. I take it you put in some kind of snipe. If you put in a bid at $999.99 and were willing to pay that why the surprise?

Were you expecting it to go for like say $700 and you put in a much higher bid as an insurance policy?

The real question is does the winner have the cajones to soak the paste off?? image That was my initial thought when I looked at it that it would be a good candidate for that, but of course, if I had the card in hand, I might have determined that wasn't the best course.

My snipe didnt register as well. I would definatly not attempt the soaking. Might take the ink off, or fade it really bad. That thing will look sweet in a authentic holder.

You're exactly right - I expected the final hammer to be between $500 and $750...and figured that I had $250 of head room. I'll have to catch the next one (assuming another exists).

With the 3rd highest bid at $458.00, Greg caused the winner to pay another $550.00 for the card. Greg, the seller should give YOU some $ for that! LOL

I had a snipe set at $700 but it didn't register. It was placed after the 2 higher bids, thus, not registering.

Yes he caused the winner to pay more but remember rare collectables only need two buyers.

If he entered a bid at $999.99 he was willing to take delivery at that price.

Really sweet items never go cheap becuase of the fear of not finding another.

If I wouldn't have just dropped $700 on a signed Paul Brown rc, he would have paid a lot more than $1009 for the Dutch Clark image

Greg your comments are why I think it is so funny how people look at the bidding run and think they can somehow determine if you did not bid what the price would go for.

You simply can not judge the value or final selling price that way. If you had not won the other card mentioned you might have gone as high as $1700 but your $999.99 bid will never tell that story.

If this was a common item perhaps you could do that but on items that are very desired the final selling price is all that matters.

Agreed. I sent a 35 Chicle to Ralph Kercheval last year but never received it back....and he died 8 months later...so I'm not sure what happened to it.

I completely agree with you, but there is a limit to what I can spend. If I could, I would have paid $2k for that card, but my limit was $1k and I'll have to live with not winning it.

its not 100,000 only 50,000 cards, around 300 tickets!!!

so now you start showing restraint in your bidding. thanks for waiting until now.

cant wait for our next show down with some new cuts for the HOF Auto set....if they ever bring out any new ones. maybe that stash of hewitt checks will find their way into some nice cut cards.

  • I just looked at the listing - is there any guarantee that the autograph is legit? No mention of any CoA.

  • I forgot about that feature! Very nice.
  • Besides being a rare signed 1935 National Chicle football card, I wonder how many have contemplated the significance of this particular card autographed. Most know Dutch Clark is a Hall Of Famer, sure.

Also consider that this card is numbered #1 in the set. Consequently, it is the first card of the first nationally distributed set of professional football cards, and it's autographed. Mega-cool, and perhaps one-of-a-kind.

    Congratulations to the buyer.

Just out of curiousity, what would a Dutch Clark RC unsigned in this condition typically sell for?
