For Sale: 1969 Topps Mantle/Yaz PSA 8

Okay here goes. PLEASE ask questions, ask for pics, etc.....

#130 Yaz PSA 8 - Everyone on these boards knows that this card is hard to find PSA 8 or better (no 10's exist and I believe only 4 9's) asking: $300

#500 Mantle (Yellow Letter) PSA 8 asking $1000

both cards were graded prior to PSA giving out .5 grades. I firmly believe Mantle has a shot at a 8.5, which is why I am asking more than book. Yaz may as well, But look for yourself. I will scan and send pics to anyone who is interested.

buy them both for $1100

thanks Rich

Rich, Is this the same Mantle that you just sold on EBAY for $600 that was returned by the buyer because you offered a 14 day return policy?

The thing is, the Mantle is not in a PSA 8.5 holder, it is in a PSA 8 holder. With grading fees and shipping, it would cost you $60 to send it in. If you did this, and it came back an 8.5, that would justify the $1000 asking price.

The thing is, it's his auction; he can (over)price it however he chooses.

It is his card, and he can price it however he wants. But he is saying that it is priced how it is because he thinks it is an 8.5. With that logic, why not send it in? If it came back an 8.5, he wouldn't have to say, "Hey, you, take a gamble that this might get into an 8.5 if you send it in."

Agree with MBMiller25. Good point. If it was sold at $600 on eBay and then returned, how can one ask for $1,000?

Agree with al032184 as well. Good points. Appreciate the posts.

Is this 69 Mantle saga getting out of hand? I saw the card and really liked it; but because of the bizarre drama I lost interest. It looks like a solid 8. I thought the card was for sure for sale at $600 or even less. I guess I was wrong. I'm confused at this whole thing.

This has always been my take....when you are selling high grade Mantles you better have your s**t together. The seller better act like he knows what the hell is going on and the buyer better come with deep pockets. None of this fiddle farting around.

I'll bite. The average selling price in VCP is $132. The card has been sold about 30 times in the past year. It has sold for more than $150.00 twice.

  • You guys are great.....

Yes, this is the Mantle that sold for $600 and was returned. The guy said he was picky about his cards. That being said, it was an 8 and looks great, so he knew exactly what he was getting. I sent pics before he got it, as well as the pic in the auction. My bad for allowing a return, because that scared the crap out of me....I kept thinking that the card was going to be tampered with. It wasn't to the buyers credit! Either way.

The Mantle has been resubmitted to PSA. It was graded before PSA did 1/2 grades, so I sent it back to see if it would get the 8.5. It might, it might not, but either way it is a great looking card.

As for the Yaz, It too was originally sent in before PSA provided half grades, it might get the .5 bump, it might not. Yes, there a lot of PSA 8's out there 172, but only 17 higher (don't count that 9Q stuff) and 4 of those are 8.5. So yes, the Yaz is overpriced, unless you think it will get the 8.5.

Many of you have discussed buying cards on the boards and sending them back in to see if they get a higher grade. I'm not trying to be a d**k, nor do I want to be known as one. I also don't want the drama around my cards. Mickey71 was interested, but now isn't because of the drama. The fact is, anyone can ask whatever they want for a card, sometimes they get it, sometimes they don't. Feel free to ask them to lower the price if you are interested. I received a very nice explaination of why the card was overpriced in a PM. You know, had that guy asked to buy it at a lower price I probably would have done it.

Maybe some people are just trying to get the most out of their meager collection to collect something else. I mean really, I'm looking for PSA 10 Emmitt Smith Score Sup. rookie and PSA 10 Romo rookies? So my collection doesn't compare to what you guys do, nor does my knowledge. Yes, again. On the Yaz I didn't do my homework and I was really freaked out about the Mantle drama.

Ultimately, It is my fault for over pricing but you know what.....I'm here to make some friends, make some trades, sales, whatever and collect some cards.

Yes, I try to get PSA 10 Emmitt Smith cards, but I don't pay $25 for a $1 card and $4.15 grading cost, but I also don't make fun of the guys trying to do it, cause any drama or anything else.

Sorry to cause so much drama and confusion.

Now that everything is said....Can we just get back to having fun and collecting cards????? image

Glad the humor was well-received, as I don't want to be one who rains on others' BST threads.

Ya know, there are some around these parts who have advocated for a x.x grading scale..... Methinks that would drive the resub traffic through the roof.

  • Okay, Quick question. What would a PSA 8.5 1969 Mantle go for on average.

It was nearly done the last time you sold it but the buyer returned it. Odd that you would send it in for review to bump up a grade after a buyer returns it but it's your money. Hopefully it will stick this time.

I was interested in that card; but too much drama for me.
    Congrats on the sale.
  • Stayed an 8. Said Top to Bottom center was not good enough for 8.5. This was the first time ever that I had a little sticky note on the card when it came back telling me what was wrong. I thought that was cool.
