Goetz medal I think

I showed this to a couple people and they know as much about it as me I'm assuming it's a medal because there is no denomination .. on the edge it does read 900 silber so that's a good sign.. A customer wants to include it in a trade for some Canadian and I need to know what it's worth ... The box in the closet containing my educational purchases is full, I have no desire to make additional contributions..

It is a medallic issue, an official issue of the German mint, and was indeed designed by Karl Goetz. I believe this was the equivalent of a 5 RM coin when it was issued, but sold at greater than that amount and not intended to circulate.

They are common. 4th Edition of Unusual World Coins (2005) has it at $35 in UNC, Wiemar 5 Mark, Goetz design.

...and over a million of these were minted. By far the most for anything made by Goetz if you consider that most of his work is numbered in 10's and not 100,000's. This piece had originally been designed as a 5 Mark piece and there are a few actual patterns out there with the 'fünf reichsmark" denomination but they are as scarce as hens-teeth. Of course on ebay everyone selling one of these calls it a pattern. It ain't as the design was never accepted by the Mint. To cut his losses Goetz yanked the denomination off of 'coin, making it a medal, and then sold a million of them.

This one is cleaned and I wouldn't pay more than 20$ for it...actually I wouldn't even pay that since you can easily find pristine pieces that are much nicer. It's worth silver melt value I'm afraid
