Poll: 2010 Thread of the Year...Winning Thread Announced

BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,488 ✭✭✭✭✭
In this thread I offered to help determine which was the best thread of 2010 in the categories of "educational" and "entertaining". There were only a few nominations, so I have rolled the two categories into one. The winning thread will be named the "Lou Butterfield Memorial Best Thread of the Year 2010" in honor of our friend, who went by IGWT until his too-soon passing last year.

The nominated threads are:

A. So who is going to bid against me on the 1936-S/1929 MS65FB on the bay? Wow... Sold for $1313.99 w/23 bidders

B. More from HRH on "The Big One is Coming March 25"

C. I finally got to see her in person...

D. What do you think of this "1794 Starred Reverse Large Cent"?

E. An 1893-S Barber Half & 1897-S CENTER MINTMARK(!!!) Barber Quarter

I'd like folks to have a chance to vote even if they are attending the FUN Show, so let's hold off on declaring a winner until after the show...say January 12th 7:30 Eastern Time.

Just for grins, I voted...becasue I was the "Winning Bidder" of A. I was not involved in the other treads at all but did read them. And heck, I will even be at FUN...live close to it. image

Id not vote for any in the poll.

regret to say but anything regarding *Bed And Breakfast* proved more fascinating...in a reality TV sense of the word.

The Six Finger Abe episode stands out in my mind also.....

Voted. I'd nominate the 1794 Starred Reverse thread as one of the coolest in the 10 years I have been here.

I do not believe we are there yet.

I believe this to be a really good read that explains it.

I picked the Mercury dime thread. It covers much about minting history and techniques, and how to determine what is or is not a variety.

I voted for Starred Reverse, but the Merc "overdate" was a close second (surprised it only has 6 votes). These are the threads that make this a great message board!

Current bid on Starred Rv $8k with 12 hours to go. I predict it will get to $15k.

I voted for the 1797 half dollar

  • << <i>I couldn't bring myself to vote for the 1794 starred reverse thread.

At first, I thought the guy ripped off his friend, after the friend's dad died, by "buying it for $25"....

but after a while, with the appearance in the thread of another new member with a similar screen name structure to the guy, with a similar car avatar picture, who was very complimentary to the 1794 thread but like the other guy, also didn't post in any other threads...

that now I suspect the whole "$25 sale" and the 1794 thread were cooked up as a publicity stunt.

No doubt, great coin, neat coin, but looking more and more suspicious as to motives

i would love to be proven wrong in this suspicion. >>

    Mr Baley,

I am a nephew of the person whom you are speaking of... & NO I do not think he would rip off anyone specially his friend.
My uncle is the person who told me about this forum, so yes I am new & came here to see what others have posted. So just to clear
it up for you it is no publicity stunt. So of course I would have favor & speak well for my uncle, wouldn't you?
