My newest project...a graded card box

I needed something better than old shoe boxes to store my graded cards in so I decided I'd try my hand at a graded card box. Considering the last thing I made was a set of book ends in 8th grade shop class I didn't think it came out to bad.....plus I only cut off 3 fingers in the process

. It will suit my needs anyway, holds 200 cards, now I just need to make a few more to hold the rest.

Mike, you just have a different kind of patience than I do, there is no way I could stand in line to meet someone and get an autograph like you do.

Bobby, it holds 200 cards. Steve, I actually intended to line this one with felt, but didn't leave quite enough space to do so without the cards being a tight fit.

Nice job, Doran. You've got me wanting to do one. I just don't have a lot of slabbed cards. My Cardinals collection is in albums. If I had a place to display them, I would like to do a nice bookshelf or cabinet. Right now, my albums are displayed on my closet shelf.

Nothing says you'd have to make them for slabbed cards Shane, you could make them for cardsavers as well. I just went out and bought the stuff to make a few more, as soon as I get a few custom card orders done I'll start on the next batch of boxes.

Forgot to mention that I had to buy wood because the wife was not pleased with my decision to steal shelves from her office to make the first one....she never uses the room anyway so I don't see what the big deal is.

Remember, measure once, cut twice. Or something like that.

I like the box a lot. Have you thought about using thinner wood or maybe putting a handle on top to make it easier to carry?

I'm definitely thinking handle at some point, but I would probably put it on the front of the box so that the boxes could still be stacked.

Thought - Make sure the stain and clear coat don't react with the plastic in the slab.

Here is the new & improved box, felt interior with a felt covered foam insert in the lid. Building the box was easy compared to gluing the felt inside.
