Anyone have confidence in the newer GAI authentication of autographs.

I know in the past there were a lot of questions regarding GAI, just looking for any new reasons to think they may have improved.

Is this a question that needs to be asked.

GAI and any reincarnation of such will always be met with skepticism. Their credibility went out the window a long time ago!

    I agree with Scott.

Edited to add: Although I have no experience with GAI's authenticating of cards, I can tell you that in the past, when I owned HUNDREDS of vintage packs graded by GAI, I did open some of them and I found cards that were either creased or in PSA "5" condition. OBVIOUSLY they were resealed. It's hard to trust a company when you have those types of experiences.

I have a few GAI slabbed cards in my collection that I had purchased years ago when Mike Gutierrez was doing the authentication. I wouldn't trust anything from them at this point, and am planning on having what I have crossed over at some point.

I was just curious if things/confidence had been restored in any shape, form or fashion. I'll go with NO based on the responses so far.

the funny thing is their old stuff (which was sketchy at the time) was 100% better than their current crap, forgers paradise, many cards completely laughable.

The very early GAI stuff seems to be ok for the most part. But as time went on, it got worse and worse.

Now, I would stay VERY far away from them. I think they do a lot of Coach's Corner's stuff now which we all know is 100% FAKE...and really bad forgeries at that.

I wouldnt touch GAI unless it was a very early item and then still would have to look it over real good before deciding to take a chance on it.
  • I agree with the other posters, GAI or any similar name has absolutely no credibility right now. I wouldn't buy any items authenticated by them unless the seller guaranteed it to pass PSA or JSA.
