Ending in a little over 10 mins. Thought this might be of interest to some. At $14,000 now... and a bad feedback seller.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

  • I don't see how his feedback is bad, one neg is from this card that he listed at the wrong price, and the other is for a smeared autograph... I'm sure this will be delivered overnight insured and all that nice stuff.

95.8 is considered by just about everyone as bad feedback. I did not say he is a cheat or the like.

The feedback is where it is at because he has a low total (80) and one negative (also one neutral for a smudged auto) for backing out of a deal where he listed the Bradford originally and claimed it was listed at the "wrong price."
  • I'd take a neg to sell something for 14000 over 700.
  • 2 negs. one maybe justified, the other one for a card that sold for $14000 today and some guy thought he pulled a steal at $750 I'd take the neg. for a five figure sale, and so would all of you.
  • It anything was to be taken by my feedback comment, it is that a 100% seller might have gotten a higher total. I think most will look at feedback and decide for themselves, if it is an item they want.

In the past, many times I have sent a replacement, and gotten a negative. So I can't really fault the guy too bad seeing how he came out. That, and I have never had a transaction with him, so it isn't even my concern.

I need a Bradford auto for the Heisman collection, but I will wait a couple years and I will likely only pay about $25.00.

  • You mean you don't have 5 digits to waste on a bradford auto?

But yah I've got one neutral because I had a card "damaged" in the mail and then I sent out another auto for the guy and he didn't mention it and I don't know how to respond to feedbacks (I've only sold like 70 items on ebay)

WOW! $14,000+ for a new card. AMAZING the cash people are throwing at some new stuff. This card or a '52 Mantle in PSA 5 or 6. NOT a hard choice IMO.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

But Mantle isn't going to hit any more homeruns, while Bradford will be throwing touchdowns for years . . . image
  • Way overpriced...seems like someone either jacked the price up with no intent of paying(an alt ID maybe?) or someone who isnt familiar with modern cards bid it up like the Strasburg Topps Chrome Auto. The issue with that is a few, it isn't baseball, it isn't Bowman Chrome, and most importantly it isn't a key issue. Topps and Donruss have a few high end releases on the horizon and the Topps Chrome will take a back seat. Bradford's been a young star for the Rams but isn't Kurt Warner and the Rams are below .500
  • He coulda bought me a new car with that kinda money.
  • Anytime you can take a buyer for $14K for a $25 card go for it.

So does the $725 buyer have any shot in a lawsuit? How "legally binding" is it when you list an item?
  • Well, if you were to agree to a price and then back out how binding is that? The buyer kinda forced a payment since paypal lets them pay the moment they won it. I don't think it is binding but what do I know there's so many damn loop holes.

that type of thinking is ridiculous and part of what is wrong in the world
  • Forgive my ignorance, but why in the hell is this card going for such a high amount? Even at $725 it seems ridiculous. It's not like he's not going to be signing autographs for the next 50-60 years. So it's a 1/1 card, big deal, it shouldn't be worth that much.

So how much is he going to have to pay in taxes now that Ebay has to turn the
sale info. over to the goverment starting this year?

Given that the bidding information is hidden (Private Listing), who knows if it really "sold." Could be an "auction house" strategy to elevate the price then list as a BIN hoping to catch a fish that falls for the "false" sales information.

He can work around that as long as he doesn't have 200 payments received this year...could even open up another account in his wife/girlfriend/kids name and ssn from what I've read.

  • After today's game and performance, that card just dropped about $12,900 in price. I guess we'll see if Bradford can live up to the hype in the 2011 season.

Not ebay - Paypal will require it for tax purposes.

I know some folks just go nuts for cards like this, but I can only see two reasons to bid like this for such a card: pure speculation that it can flip or else it's Bradford himself, someone connected to him, or a SERIOUS fan for life. If it's the former, the buyer had better be praying that he passes for 6,000 next year.

But Mantle isn't going to hit any more homeruns, while Bradford will be throwing touchdowns for years . . .

OR he gets injured, his career ends, and that's a five dollar card a year from now! To me this is a FOOLISH gamble. The odds of it going down in value are substantially higher than it going up in value.

Beyond that, people saying you can "work around" the tax thing. That's called TAX EVASION and that's a CRIME. You could go to the federal slammer for that! I suggest you re-consider "working around" the tax code.

I don't imagine you will find any Heisman auto 1/1's for less then $75-100.00.

And even if he never plays again, he will likely be worth more then Eric Crouch or Charles White (other somewhat recent heisman QBs).

Mind you, I won't pay the $250 or so most of his auto rc's are hitting.

I said he 'can' work around it...not that he should. I do so many smaller dollar transactions ($5-$100) that this whole ebay/IRS setup seems like a record-keeping nightmare to me. I really just try to get the hobby to pay for my hobby (if I am lucky) - I truly don't make a profit on it myself.

Edited to add - yes, I can see the point of requiring taxes to be paid on this sale

Apparently you missed the Seattle game last night... all of his passes were less than 10 yards each. That won't win a high school//
