New addition to my 1917 Date Set

MFHMFH Posts: 11,720 ✭✭✭✭

My Dad was born in 1917 - and I'm slowly putting together
a Mint Set in his honor. He was my strongest supporter and
loved signing for the packages that arrived. He anxiously awaited
for my arrival at night so he could see what new beauty I had located.

Merry Christmas, Pop.

Sharp. I like the colors on it.

Is it an AU coin, or is Lady Liberty a bit softly struck? Early Walkers are not my forte.

I have a nice 1917-P Half - and my Set is called John M. Hayes Birthyear Set

It contains most of the coins in the collection of 1917 dated coins... but not these:

... and three years ago, this was one of his 90th Birthday presents:

I'm still missing a few coins - but sooner or later, I'll run across the ones missing.

    Thanks for the kind words.

If 1917 was my birthyear - I'm the youngest looking 93 yr old around.

BTW - My Birthday is next Monday - in case you want to send me something
    nice from your Dime Collection.

Nice coin Mike - it just screams 'original'.
And this year set ought to be a little easier than your mom's 1921 set you put together - which BTW you did a a great job with, despite some of the formidable coins minted that year.

Thanks, Greg. I still need the Cents, Nickels
and the D&S Halves and Morgan's D&S to
complete the 1921 Mint Set for my Mom.

I also have a wildly off center 1921 Cent
so its in keeping with my Dad's birthyear set.

    Very nice Mike.

I'm sure your Dad was excited to see that.

When you get to the quarter, do you think your dad will prefer type I or type II? image

Sorry to say, my Dad passed away two years ago; I have been adding a coin here
and there since his passing. He was always pleased with my coins - and he always
liked coins from his birthyear. I have assembled a number of SLQ sets - and sold my
Gem MS set to fund my Barber sets - but recently got back into nice mid grade MS
    coins - and have all the Type 1 & Type 2's. [ in MS 63 & 64 w/ FH ]

Here's the Link to the Mint Set.

Mike, sorry about your Dad, I had forgotten you mentioned he passed away. My dad passed away a few years ago as well, but like you, it's great to keep the spirit of your dad alive.
I have all of his modest coin collection now, but his big thing was model trains and it's great around Christmas to watch the the little kids and the big kids image, get a hoot out of them, it makes me feel like he's still here.
